Logan Gave Me Nose Surgery

  • Long story. I'll try to make it short. Never been able breath freely through my nose. Dad has the same issue. He was diagnosed with a deviated septum, so they cracked his nose (broke it) to free things up. Anesthesia, surgery room and all that. I booked an appointment a few years back to see if I had a similar issue. Doc said "Yeah, I can see some deviation, but not enough to warrant any correction, plus you've been living with for so long it's probably fine." Thanks for nuthin'. So I go about my life.

Last week I'm riding the couch watching nothing important on the tube and Logan sees something in the backyard. Within a nanosecond and without any warning whatsoever he leaps across and over top of me to clear the top of couch which is the shortest fastest way to the back door. I don't know what, maybe his rear knee cracks me right on the left side of my nose. And I mean HARD. It hurt like holy hell. The kind of hurt where it hurts so bad that you can't even say the seven words that you aren't allowed to say on TV. Well... at least back in the days when you couldn't say them. :grinning_squinting_face: Eyes watering. It hurt really bad. No, I didn't beat him. Never even acknowledged it with him. It was an accident. Stuff happens. Plus, I NEVER strike my dogs. Ever.

But OMG it hurt. Bad. My nose was sore for the next three maybe four days. At first I thought he broke it, but it never bruised so I just decided to wait and see.

So the net result is... he cracked something in there. But I CAN BREATH AGAIN! My Basenji is a doctor! :oncoming_fist: :grinning_face_with_sweat:

  • @jengosmonkey Basenjis excel at everything, Greg - you should know that by now !

So pleased you are cured !

  • Hahaha loved this story! I was definitely expecting something along the lines of teeth-on-nose but this is amazing!! CONGRATS on being able to breathe again!

  • :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: WTG Logan!! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

@eeeefarm In all these years and with lots and lots of hernias (Basenji Moms have a tendency to take the cord in their mouth, paw in the stomach of the neonate and WRENCH so they are understandable) I have never known (or heard of for that matter) one strangulate. But as @tanza says, careful observation - is the lump changing colour, for instance - will show you if things ARE going wrong.

Spencer had one of his anal glands impacted when he was just under a year old, and ever since, I keep an eye out for swelling, scooting, licking or tail biting. It's usually obvious when he's having issues. Except… I took him to the vet last week because I thought he might have an eye infection. I always have his anals expressed while I'm there and was shocked when the vet tech said he had an infection in one of them. I had seen no signs at all! So now he's on antibiotics for ten days, then back we go for a re-check. Glad to hear Oakley is doing well. He's a handsome boy!

Sugar gets the 'winter nose' thing. It does get a pinkish black, but in summer goes straight back to black. All puppies are born with the pink noses and they later fill in. Talker still has a little bit of pink which I expect will fill in.

when i brought lenny home from being neutered, the pain meds really did a number on him. he was limp as a noodle. it was actually pretty funny, he would be sitting up and then gradually his head would start to bob and his eyes would close, and then once his nose touched the ground, he'd spring back up again all alert and then gradually start to fade again… good luck to you trying to keep mia from jumping around... not easy with a B!

@Lenora: Even if you've got enough bed for yourself and 15 basenjis YOU are only allowed a 6 inch wide strip along the edge and that's only if you don't have to bend your knees! I'm a right or left side sleeper but I start out on the right. Abbey positions herself behind my knees. When I wake up and feel the need to turn left, I do that. Abbey grumbles and growls, then she climbs over me and fits herself behind my knees again. Once I slept on my back and dreamed I was trapped in an avalanche under an enormous boulder. When I woke up Abbey the Boulder was on top of me! LOL! So true, so true! Abbey the Boulder - hee hee!
