It depends on the breeder. I come from Rottweiler breeding background... we expose puppies to loud noises, really loud, uneven sources, temp changes, etc etc. Getting one at 8 wks, start off slow. I am sort of shaking my head... grew up around hunters and dogs and none cared... but that was the norm. I did find what looks like a reasonable article that might help. Also, I know you are set on a male... but have you considered an older rescue? Brat, CampBasenji and other rescues might have the perfect dog for you if no puppies are available. Otherwise, be prepared to get on waiting lists for next year. http://www.thesportsmanchannel.com/2012/05/how-to-introduce-your-dog-to-gunfire/

@tanza: Great to hear…. and so much easier now that it can be done with the cheek swab. Yes, we have given an order for it at our Vet. :)

In addition to checking out the Basenji Club of America's Breeder Directory, take a moment to read through the information at http://www.basenji.org/learn to see the types of questions you should ask a breeder.
