Should I look for basenjis in Russia?

    I am looking to get a basenji in Christmas season. I have contacted a lot of breeders and many have been tons of help. I understand it is up to nature. I was just wondering if it is likely that a puppy can be 8 weeks old by December 25th. I searched on world dog finder and found an add for a puppy. She said I could be put on the list and it could be possible to have them ready by then. Is this because it gets colder there faster? Also if any breeders are able to let me know if they usually have a litter ready by then please let me know. Just wondering if I should continue looking for basenjis internationally?

    @nico - There could be one at that age, but I will tell you that from most all responsible breeders, placing a pup over a holiday is not advisable. Most all Basenjis are born in Nov/Dec/Jan so in order for a pup to be of age in December they would need to be born October and that said, at least in the US, Basenjis are placed at 10 to 12wks. You would be better off to just supply pictures of a pup if a Christmas gift with puppy gifts for when your new puppy would come home.

    I would never sell a Basenji puppy as a potential Christmas Present ! (and I don't know any responsibile breeders who would either)

    Presents often get the wrapping torn off and are then discarded - how about waiting until after the festive season when things have calmed down and you have time to cope with the exigencies of a new puppy ?

    Tanza's idea of giving a photo might work but a live puppy under foot on Christmas Day, among all the relatives and parcels - No.

    Oddly enough, there is another person in Spain needing to rehome their Basenji puppy. The fellow's girlfriend does not like dogs. The topic is "Basenji puppy for adoption (Spain)" and the guy is @Luc21. Hope you can contact him.

    @rjbasenji - this is the time to align with a responsible breeder for a pup maybe in 2021. Because Basenjis only come in season once a year and their litter size is only 4-6 puppies, it is difficult to find one especially will all the people that "want" one... If you can visit with a breeder that would help you or if not call them on the phone and tell them why you think that a Basenji would be a good fit for your family/lifestyle.

    All pups have been placed as responsible breeders have reservation lists. We are not at this time planning a litter for 2020 or 2021. I would be happy to talk to you about Basenjis. You can search for responsible breeders at www.basenji.org by state, however as far as I know all responsible breeders on the West Coast already have full reservation lists. You would be looking at litters possible in 2021. This is the time to connect with a responsible breeder and get on their reservation lists for 2021. And if you are looking for a dog that is hypoallergenic, Basenjis do shed and have dander so they are not really hypoallergenic. While they can do well with people with allergies, you need to spend time with them and more than one time. Be sure that you check out health testing yourself, regardless of what you might be advised. Tests for DNA testing is public knowledge at www.ofa.org. You need to have either a registration number or name to check this out for yourself to verify. I suggest all people looking for a Basenji, even my own, do this.

    @nomrbddgs: I did find a lady for you, unfortunately, Luther is sick and has taken a turn for the worse recently, so that meeting was cancelled even before I could tell you. I haven't found anyone else remotely close. Sorry!!! Thanks very much! We greatly appreciate your help. Let us know if you hear of any other Saskatchewan Basenjis for us to meet!
