Capt'n Jack

  • LoL… so I have this pale blue parakeet named Capt'n Jack, I suprised my mother one day by bringing him home with me. Just shortly after my Bandit died I was longing for a pet (we had not yet adopted Mali) so I ran down to the pet-shop and started browsing. There he was... the smallest parakeet in the bird-tank. All the other birds piling on top of him "picking on him" basically. I told the pet-store worker I wanted "that one!" so they scooped him up and I brought home my very own Capt'n Jack Sparr...er... Parakeet... :D :D

He's a little crazy though, he climbs up onto the cage's top and then just... lets go. O.O haha... anybody else got some crazy feathered friends?

  • Love your parakeet's name, guess you are a fan of the movie. I have 2 cats, one 17 & one 10 yrs. old.

  • Yeah I'm a pretty big fan… lol... plus when I saw how crazy he was the name just fit... lol

It seems to me there are a couple of issues here. I don't think a shelter wants just any JoeBloe walking in one day to say "hey I'd like to help by walking your dogs". The shelter needs to know something about its volunteers though a criminal check might be a bit much. If someone has been volunteering at a shelter for some time so the staff knows them and now new policies are being put into effect, then the shelter should have some sort of informational meeting/handout for all its volunteers so they know what and why. And even when volunteers have been accepted, some mini-training should be included for handling dogs. Many shelter dogs have been abused so I wouldn't want a volunteer who grew up under the "old" system of training with spanking and collar yerking now handling a special needs dog. Actual certification for dog walkers - no - the government intrudes enough.

Something similar was at a big dog show in my area a few years ago. The one I ran my dog through had an A-frame and tunnels as well as the jumps and tire. It was a blast!

I enjoyed the video, whilst in Kefalonia snorkelling i saw several Octopi , i think they're fascinating creatures. The ones i saw stayed very still, don't think i'd of been so keen if one had shot towards me.

We were in Ohio when I wrote it. Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, but Congress apparently forgot to vote on the resolution. It was finally rectified on August 7, 1953, which technically makes Ohio the 47th state. However, it is counted as the 17th because it wasn't Ohioans who created the problem. Who says our Federal government isn't efficient? Zanesville, OH is the location of the Y Bridge, which starts and ends on the same side of the river. But that's where we were. The wolverine is the official state animal and nickname of the state. Fur trappers from Canada brought pelts across the state and folks further south assumed (there's that word again) the pelts were trapped in Michigan. The Detroit Red Wings assembled the Russian Five, who propelled the Hockey team to the Stanley Cup in 1997. Within a few days of the win, one of the team members was permanently benched in an auto accident, but the remaining four were instrumental in the 1998 and 2002 Stanley Cup wins for the Red Wings. We will be in Grand Rapids, MI tomorrow morning. Ms. Basenjimamma: The temperature here right now is 51F. :)
