    Hello,
    I've raised two Basenji's, both girls, Luna and Jungle Jane. Luna passed a few years ago and sadly Jungle passed last month. I thought I could live without a basenji.... I can't!! I would love to raise a black and white boy and wondering about a breeder on the west coast. I can travel to get him'z!! I got Jungle Jane from a breeder in Ohio, Rugosa's Basenji's through a dog park friend, Perry. I don't know if they still breed but would love to find someone closer. Thanks for any advice or information. PS- I met a black and white boy today in SF who was from a breeder in Seattle but I didn't get their name.... Jason

    We just got a basenji from Kathy khanisbasenjis.com. She is locat in SE Portland Oregon and has bread them for years. I. Am not sure where you are located but I know there are 2 in Oregon that I am aware of. You put a deposit down and she does like to meet the owner.

    Go to www.basenji.org and search by state. Most likely you can find a breeder that might have or be breeding Black/White...

    www.basenji.org you can search for breeders by state. There is also a link on how to "vet" breeders, question you should ask. https://www.basenji.org/learn/ScreeningBreeders.htm Also check out health testing yourself. You need to have the registration numbers and/or registration name and you can check at www.ofa.org Here is the link for questions to ask breeders.     Hi, I talked to my daughter last night and she really does not want me to find him another home, even though he's making her sick, (she's allergic to him). She threatened to leave home if I did. She's 18 so she could. I guess we will try and keep him. The good news is I did find a place that will pick up and drop off dogs, take them for long walks in the woods, and let them play with other dogs for the day. All for just $17.00 a day. So at least he's not in a crate for 9 hours any more and he seems to really enjoy it. He runs to the person right away and is excited to go and comes back very happy and tired.

    @dmcarty: Understanding however that breeding carriers to clear is the option that allows to include the widest genetic diversity. Breeding only clear to clear reduces the diversity in the population - shade of what happend to the breed during some of the other health concerns like HA, PRA and Malabsorbtion. Hopefully we learned that throwing the baby out with the bath water is not the most effective way of keeping valuable traits while eliminating health concerns. +1…I could not agree with you more!

    I would look at the BCOA site for reputable breeders in your area, but don't be quick to rule out others. A lot of good breeders have all their puppies spoken for by now, so that will make your search much harder. But keep looking and don't be afraid to contact folks from all over. The most important thing is to find a good breeder that you can work with personally, and one who does significant health testing, including the new DNA marker for fanconi. A happy healthy puppy and supportive relationship with a breeder are priceless! I do know some folks will ship, but the best thing to do is go out and get the dog. You will probably want to meet the breeder and litter, and they will want to meet you. That way you can get a better feel for each other and both still have an "out" if things don't seem right. For about the same price as shipping a dog, you can get a plane ticket yourself to get them. It usually only costs about $50 or so to add the dog in cabin on your return trip. And then you are in complete control the whole time of what is happening to your puppy. Also sometimes breeders that live outside your area still have ways to make transportation arrangements. You can always check. They know other breeders that live between you two and can meet up with them at shows or events to get the puppy closer to it's new home, or within a reasonable driving distance of you. My first dog came from Georgia, but I only had to go to KY to get him. :)
