    I'm hoping things work out for you and your Basenji. It can be extremely overwhelming dealing w/ a new dog never mind that the new dog is a BASENJI ( puts a whole new spin on things). I know many of the people have sounded very CRITICAL but I think they mean well. Please hang in there I'm sure it will all work out and you'll be able to enjoy your new member of the family.     Dear @cherif , after a long research i concluded that you can try to mix lemon juice with coconut powder, and bath his feet (only) for 20 minutes every night. try also to sing for him 30 minutes before going to sleep so that his anxiety decreases with time

    While unproven home remedies suggest those for yeast, I cannot imagine what makes you think it will calm the dog. Also not sure the lemon juice would be good for soaking nightly as it can affect pH level.

    Some observations.

    Generally, just ask for a show of hands, I'm the one usually accused of harsh responses. It's a bit amusing to see them. Yes, some were harsh, but in an "our job is to make sure the puppy is taken care of, not try to tell you that you are perfectly logical and right in what you are doing." If you try to remember that this forum is dedicated to the dogs, you'll (Edit, no idea how I erased it before) take it less personally.

    Anyone extrapolating that your distress means you don't/won't love the puppy is out of line... as is the foul-mouthed response to her. You have a new puppy and your expectations need adjusting.

    Something that concerns me is that both you and Samm got puppies that are pretty... emotional. That trip from France to Beirut, all the changes.. that could explain everything. But you both need to be talking to the breeder about temperament and quirks of their line. Someone suggested... and it seems to have gotten lost ... is to make SURE the sudden pee/poop isn't medical.

    You are moving too fast and the result is flipping her out and then you're reacting to that. It's normal. But understand that the concern is that if you think things are out of control now, stay on the path you are on. Start over. Reevaluate her needs because if she's happy, you'll be happy. :) There is no getting around the suggestions of everyone that she needs to be with you. If you had a big pack, it might be easier to get them all to sleep elsewhere... but right now, it really is cruel.

    The crate issue needs to be fixed as soon as things settle. At some point, she could need crating and you don't want both the stress of an emergency and not used to a crate at the same time.

    Btw, I'm in Haifa, Israel. If you both aren't familiar with parkwork, please call your vets quickly. In the US we have heartworms. Here it's parkworm. Feel free to message me if you need any info on it.

    It sounds trite, but honestly, things get better. Look at her as a baby and one you have time to work on shaping her.

    Jellybeans. That was the key to my crate training my son's basenji. NOT black jellybeans, they stink. Cinnamon is not a favorite. The dog only gets jelly beans in the crate. Even today, if we have workmen in and I need to crate, she knows by the jelly beans that all is well, and she calms (but still is vocal - she is a Basenji after all :)

    @DebraDownSouth Thank you for your reply... My grandma used to apply it on her cat and it worked for her.
    @cherif maybe her anxiety comes from heart issues ? have you tried to take her to a cardiologist ?

    In English!

    With mistakes such as « she have » she will be learning poor grammar mistakes. And this cannot be acceptable for a Basenji!!!:pouting_face:

    @steven12 NO ! Bring her up to be multi lingual - Basenjis are great communicators and need the challenge of two (or more) languages !

    @cherif Basenjis are not for everyone, My personal feeling is that if you want a dog in a crate who doesn't sleep with you a basenji is not for you. If you are able to treat your basenji as an equal being that lives with you, that you respect and love great, but your dog is already acting out, you can't force a basenji to do anything, has to be mutual respect between you if not give her to someone who knows basenji's so that she can be happy,
    not kept crated and sleeping alone.

    @k9collars: I'm not sure you'll be able to stop this problem with the harnesses. Often times, hair loss is from the hairs getting into the weave of the webbing and then it being plucked out. For that problem, you'll need a fabric against their skin that would be of a tight enough weave that the hairs can't get into the weave. Second problem is the friction. The dog is continually in motion rubbing, while the harness is stationary. Back and forth, back and forth. Nylon webbing may not be abrasive when touched, but over time it will have the effect you've noticed. Perhaps a softer lining might work (satin, polar fleece), but over a long distance, it too may have the same result. Time to reach outside the Basenji family to find rollerbladers that take their dogs with them. They must've come across this problem. Nick Lexington, KY Thats what is great about Ruff Wear they really go above and beyond to prevent the friction wear and the hair being pulled out too

    @ELERICKSON40: Yes I agree. She is quite the mighty hunter and her nose is to the ground always!! Alot of times when she is digging in the couches and chairs she is trying to bury a bone. She will stuff a bone into the corner and actually take her nose and push imaginary dirt?? over the bone. It makes us laugh!! Yea, my B does the same, the first time I saw this I was so intriged, they are so smart. It is a funny thing to watch, Sahara will take a bone around the house in her mouth for the perfect place to bury it. If she can't find a place she is happy with she will prance around whinning the sadest noise like she is so sad. I actually pitch in and help her find a place, and she will most of the time agree on the place, she checks it out and then walks off. These dogs spoil you for any other breed, they are the best.

    Well, Tosca is just fine I think:) I was kinda worried last night, as the emergency vet said it would probably be ok since she only had half a pill, but they said I could call poison control to be sure. Well, that was going to be pretty expensive (55) so I wasn't too crazy calling about half of a pill, plus she seemed ok, and the vet seemed pretty confident. Then this morning I was a little worried again because she wouldn't eat more than about half her food, which is extrememly unusual, she usually gobbles it right up! But I had to go to work, and I called our usual vet on the way and they said it shouldn't be a problem. Luckily, now that I am home tonight she seems fine:) Thanks for the suggestions, we just got Tosca in Feb and this is the first time I have ever had a dog ( I was deathly scared of them as a kid) but she really has grown on me, she is so sweet, and not like a normal dog.

    I do now seeing what you say I do agree with a more verbal and/or stand up and as you say "higher dog" split them up. And I have seen this many times, where my boxer would do that at a dog park, he's such a dork lol, some dogs would start arguing and he'd go shoulder his way inbetween them and just stand there. I can also understand your point that there are a high number of boxers that don't get the clue and subtle hints, and part of it JMO is back to training. And the whacking them in the face, yep thats a boxer, lol. And I can understand that Basenjis don't like that. When we frst met our neighbor that had a Basenji, Reggie tried his normal "boxer" techniques (but thankfully he's not a face wacker) to get the B to play, pawing at him, low woofs, etc, since that didn't work he took the B's toy and stood there squeaking it at him and then took off in a game of chase, they were friends until we moved away.
