    low fat super-market pate

I'm so curious... what are you referring to here? My brain is saying 'Braunschweiger', but somehow I think you might mean something else... can you share the name brand or more information? (thanks!)

  • Waitrose is the local supermarket I tend to frequent. They do a wide range of 'own brands' and this is one of them. I love pate (NOT the low-cal variety though) and had been giving Keeper his medication in that.

One day I was in a hurry and accidently bought the low-fat variety by mistake. I used it up on Keeper and he loves it. Being low fat, it is better for him.

Pate (there should be an acute accent over the 'e' -) is normally made from pork. It is spreadable and you can get smooth, coarse (farmhouse) or medium types. 'Ardennes' is a common one, so is 'Brussels' - they are pretty similar, supermarket to supermarket.

One I particularly like is Wild Duck but most good supermarkets have a Deli counter and you can get a wide variety.

    Hope this helps.

  • cream cheese is a good disguise as well.

  • @redial Yes - but it is messy ! The pate works a treat - he regards every medication as a treat (Hoover gets a small piece at the same time) and I never have any problem. In fact as they are both loathe to venture out last thing at night these wintry days - leaving the comfort and warmth of leather armchairs - I have taken to rattling the packet !

It gets them out in seconds ! (Subterfuge though - they don't get anything and I hope it will be Spring again before they realise they have been conned !)

@Saving said in Anal Gland Health Diet Adjustment (ideas?): scavenging on walks has increased though and that's quite annoying. LOL, omgosh! The amount of food tossed on the ground is astounding! And doodle will grab it up before I have any idea it's there! I wish I had a picture of the day she pulled a (whole) bagel out of a bush!

@Baba-Bamidele I change kibble so that no matter where I am, where I go, if I need food for the girls, I have a number of different choices. Do not have to rely on just one. And I don't have to worry about the standard "change food slowly".... they are used to many, many changes

The word "Made in China" doesn't appear on any human or dog/cat food that comes into our house. I even question things that say don't say they are "Made in China" but say something like "Distributed by So and So company, anyplace". I need to know the maker of the food is getting the ingredients from North America and that the food is manufactured and packaged in North America. More recently I am not buying other products Made in China (e.g. drinking glasses, plates, coffee cups, food containers, etc.) but this can be way more difficult. :(

I once had a pup under treatment at the Bristol Veterinary hospital. When they finally sorted the problem I was told now you'll be able to give him real food meaning kibble!1 I always feed raw and whatever but never complete dog food. Having said that it seems that over here we get a new dog food manufactutrer every month and all claim that theirs is the best!!

IMO unless a dog has specific health problems, I've never given senior food. My old heeler/am esk mix is over 10 and she still gets what everyone else is on - Nutro for sensitive stomachs. She's still a PITA and wants to play all the time.
