Let's also consider that when you chase your dog, the dog thinks it's a game and will run away from you. Like... "you can't catch me!" Man, Basenji's can bolt! On the other hand, when you are the one running away, the dog instinctively joins you because you are part of the dog's family/pack. This is not to be confused with a learned command to chase an assailant, in Police work, for example. That would be a totally different game of chase.

Hello- Some just don't and never will.
Out of the 5 I have had only 3 ever Yodelled or Barooed. -
I had two that wouldn't and I found on YouTube basenji national anthem. If that doesn't work nothing may but it got mine yodelling!
-
I have had 3 basenjis, only one yodeled. It is a hole in our experiences that I try to meet by going on youtube. Good luck, but some do, some don't.

If you have one that does, usually playing a yodel tape or faking it yourself will get them going. My boy Sunny would yodel, and he would also howl on cue. Once started he was quite persistent!
Frustration brings the yodel out in many. Here, Perry wants to be released from the chair to chase his roller ball, and expresses his displeasure at having to wait.
Sunny would also yodel when frustrated. You might try withholding something she wants and then playing a yodel tape to inspire her. Of course, a happy yodel is the best one of all! I envy the people with Basenjis that would greet them this way.

From what I know, every b has its own voice, huge differences among them. Our Lela baroos all the time. Her sister Binti only makes the sound of a badly tuned moped when it's time for meat. My advice: enjoy Jasmine's own unique voice.

@DebraDownSouth Binti's moped. It's not much, but you get the idea.

I love it! Yes, does sound like a moped for sure!

That is definitely moped-like. I love it! Thank you.

I have had 12 adult basenjis over the years and found that some would yodel, some would not.
I had 2 lines and think they either have yodeling DNA or they didn't, one did, one did not.The ones that did yodeled when they knew they were getting to do something they really liked to do, so it was a happy yodel.

Of my four recent basenjis, only one really yodelled and do so often (whenever I was too slow in getting him dinner ). My current female does not yodel, not even tries, but she does occasionally make other sounds (they sound horrible too, like a hawk just grabbed a rabbit). My first two not only never yodelled, they never made a sound.
