  • I just got my first basenji 2 months ago. Ive been reading and learning about the breed for the last 5 years now and just made the big decision! So far so good but having read the stories Im keeping alert. There are many questions I want to ask and look forward to hear your advice!

  • Greetings from another basenji fancier that hasn't yet owned a basenji. Did you get a puppy or an older dog? I have been doing my homework on the breed for just over a year now, and I am trying to decide wether to get a puppy or a young adult. What were your key factors in the decision on this breed?

  • I got a puppy because I didn`t feel confident in dealing with issues an older dog might have. The main reasons for choosing the breed were compatibility with apartment life (size, cleanliness) and the charming personality!

  • I have come to a similar conclusion, and I am anticipating bringing home a puppy in March. I was nervous about the idea of transitioning through the puppy stages, but have connected with a nearby breeder that is knowledgable about the local resources and provides support. I now feel more comfortable with going down the puppy trail. Just need to get the house ready for a puppy!

  • Hi and welcome. Who is the breeder? We all know each other in this neck of the woods!

  • Hi Tanza…I have been following your Facebook page, and enjoyed watching your last litter of pups grow :) I have connected with Lisa Voss of Kinetic Basenjis in Woodland CA, and I am very pleased with her line of dogs and breeding philosophy.

Super… Lisa and I have co-bred litters and I am co-breeder/co-owner on Sophie and her baby boy! Please think about coming and spending so time with us (not sure if Lisa is coming since she just delivered a little baby girl of their own in April) but the Basenji Club of Northern California is having our annual puppy match on June 22nd in Oakley, not that far for you. Information can be found at www.norcalbasenjis.org and then go to events and the premium for directions. A good breeder is family once you get a puppy…. and is there for you during all the ups and downs! We are in the Sac area for shows every now and again and will be in Vallejo June 8th and 9th for shows. Will post the show times if you might be able to come. Carly, from my litter will debut in the ring for the first time... always fun to watch! Glad that you like watch C-Me's litter grow up... they were amazing, I was so happy with all of them as are their new owners!

I own five basenjis. Two yodel until you have a headache and my female barks. She always did. Short clipped barks. I also researched the breed before getting my first and she is an excellent dog. My third basenji was a handful. Three years later and he has stopped his destructiveness etc. It was a hard three years. Lol. You never know with a basenji. Greatest breed. Loyal, active, funny but some require ALOT of patience.

Big hugs to you for adopting an older basenji. My heart gets broken when I see the senior b's on the BRAT web page. :( So give Pippi a hug for me.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see pics of Dash, and the rest of the family!!! I do home visits for BRAT. Would love to foster one, but space will not allow it at this time.
