  • My name is Racheal from Tucson, AZ and my husband and I have 2 basenjis. We've had basenjis for 2 years now, both rescues. We have a female, Lucy who is 8 years and a male Zenji who is about the same age. We don't have a lot of history for Zenji. Both of our basenjis have Fanconi, different stages. Zenji was almost bald when we rescued him. He is doing really well now. Lucy has the beginnings of the disease, she, however has awful allergies and we are having a difficult time identifying them. .

  • Hi and welcome, sorry to hear both your dogs have Fanconi. Sure you will find some threads to help you along. Do you have any photo's to share, would love to see Zenji and Lucy. Allergies are definitely awful, we are seeing a holistic vet to help sort out our boys problems, it's slow and steady, I can see improvement so it makes it easier than seeing him suffer. Good luck.

  • Welcome and so sorry to hear about the health issues of your two B's…. Thank you for opening up your home to them... And Thank Goodness we now have DNA tests for Fanconi so that no Basenji ever has to suffer with this horrible affliction.

I own five basenjis. Two yodel until you have a headache and my female barks. She always did. Short clipped barks. I also researched the breed before getting my first and she is an excellent dog. My third basenji was a handful. Three years later and he has stopped his destructiveness etc. It was a hard three years. Lol. You never know with a basenji. Greatest breed. Loyal, active, funny but some require ALOT of patience.

Mallia is the third Basenji we have the pleasure of having in the last 30 years. She is a female where as the first two were males.

Big hugs to you for adopting an older basenji. My heart gets broken when I see the senior b's on the BRAT web page. :( So give Pippi a hug for me.

First off, Welcome to our site of valueable Basenji information. I have learned so much linking into this site, we have lots of laughs as well. My B, Sahara, crosses her legs all the time, she is such a showoff and often has the regal queen look. I love the look myself, they are such beautiful dogs I must say, not that I am partial or anything. Your Piper is so cute, welcome again.

Hi Kiro, Welcome our neck of the woods. I live just a bit past Emmittsburg in PA so I'm not too far. The Mid-Atlantic Basenji Club meets at the Carroll County Agricultural Center right there in Westminster. Our next meeting is 1 June and there will also be a spring fun match that same day. It starts at 0900. There is a Yahoo group for the club that has info about the event. It's fun and games. It's really neat to see so many basenjis in one place. Hope you can make it. It's a nice club to belong to. Karen
