Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Old man would like to have a free puppy doesent need to be perfect
many years ago i read a saturday evening post mag. Story about a basinji an d i have wanted one since

  • Albert, a good place to start looking for a Basenji is BRAT… http://www.basenjirescue.org/ …they will make sure your right for a Basenji & help you find the Basenji that's right for you. It may take a little bit longer to reach your goal, but when you do, you'll know how worthwhile the wait was.

There's so much more to a Basenji then what could have been published in the post, so take your time to learn as much as you can before excepting the responsibility. The right Basenji will expose you to a world like no other....they'll make you laugh, cry, sing and dance all the while showing you love, loyality and a side of yourself you never knew existed.

Good luck and keep us posted..!!

  • Ditto srjeeper's reply! Do make sure they are the right breed for you, and you'd probably be better off with one a little out of the "puppy" stage. I am 72, have one P/B basenji and a basenji/sheltie mix, and they are quite a handful at times. Their antics and personalities are very entertaining, and sometimes very trying. Still, so long as these old shoulders and knees will deal with it, I love them to bits and hopefully they will continue making me feel young. NOT your quiet, cuddly couch potato type of dog!

  • I second the notion that a puppy might not be the right fit. There are many mature ones out there that need homes, and would (hopefully!) be less of a hassle, although some Basenjis never seem to outgrow the "puppy" stage! :)

BRAT is a good site to start your research, perhaps right here:

Thank you so much but for the last 6 months yes, six months I have not gotten a response from them and those pictures are 2 years old of that sweet pair. That is why we drove to Texas to adopt Enzo our current basenji. We like to adopt older dogs and would love to have another older pup since no one seems to want them. Thank you again. I’m trying pet finder. We are so lucky in Colorado that most of our shelters have a high adoption rate.

@jodymp another post you sent stated you were in Yorkshire... so, are you looking for a pup in Europe? Do you have a specific region, or a distance range where you are focusing your search?

OK, I take it all back, we have decided to keep Baroo. He deserves another chance, and a fair one, so I'm going to commit to training him and walking him and take it from there. I will be starting another post, and don't want to repost everything here, so if you want to know more see the other post. I have just decided he is worth a second chance.

@Roxy: And what's the most often phrase for breeding low quality folks like yourself? "I was drunk." nice punchline. This thread is out of hand.

@jmcduff: We were able to pickup Tyson from Kelli and brought him home on Monday. His new buddies Chevy (Tri-female) and Chase (RW-male) are beginning to accept Tyson into our home. Chase has no problem but Chevy is very protective of us and very bitchy toward Tyson. After two days she is getting better. Chase he doesn't care he just goes with the flow. The first night was interesting but we made it through. Our B's sleep in our bed and Chevy wasn't too happy about having to share with Tyson. She doesn't bother him when they are outside together it is mostly inside our house which she is very protective. I have attached a picture of all them together. Ha! Her body language says it all!!! Good luck, and I hope things get better and better! Beautiful dog family there!
