Breeder Talk
  • Im currently putting together my puppy pack, and I was wondering if anyone could send me links to sites, or articles etc, that they really LOVE, or that they always include in their puppy packs, please ???

I just need some ideas, as I have hit a bit of a brickwall about it :D…

  • I love Sophia Yin's articles.

She has a great puppy primer that she made for her dad.

  • Since Basenji afflictions are late onset what good is a Two year Health Guarantee? And hips/elbows can't be certified until after the age of 2?

  • Sorry that is the old one. On my revised papers, i stated there was a 3 year guarantee. Because I agree, alot of things dont show up until 2…but just throwing it out there, alot of people that i have seen or contacted only do a one year. Which i dont understand at all... oh and Fanconi would be guarenteed for the life of the puppy/dog.

I am still in research (these are just things i planned on doing) if i ever got to that point. Might i ask what you offer with your puppies? Or what would you recommend? like i said these are just trials and i just put on here so it was an example for Saba to use as they were looking for things to go in a puppy packet.

I offer a guarantee for life… I will always take back that puppy/adult if necessary. This is not to say that I will "refund" money, because I don't (however each situation is different, so I would never say never). But I will support any of my puppy owners and if I can will help support in the care of that puppy if a problem comes up. There is no breeder that can honestly guarantee that a puppy/dog will not come up with some problem some time in his or her lifetime, so I find and "guarantees" are pretty much a joke when people say you have a 1, 2, 3, whatever amount of time... as a responsible breeder you are in it for life.

I offer a lifetime guarantee to take a puppy back. I meant that the guatantee is for 3 years that I will replace or refund a puppy. After the three years i will still take back a puppy at anytime i just wont give them a puppy or a refund.

I would always support any puppy throughout its life and would never deny a puppy back into my life. I love dogs and no matter what i am responsible for the dogs that I would produce. I offer lifetime commitment to the owners and the puppies

And I didnt realize this. I thought everyone was supposed to have a Guarantee. but i offer a replacement puppy for 3 years. (a partial refund might also be offered in certain instances. then I do not allow a replacement puppy but, like i said, id always take back a puppy.

@Chealsie508: I am a born skeptic and although I am not a breeder I would feel uncomfortable placing a puppy into a home when you 1: haven't been able to meet them or 2: haven't been "vetted" by someone you know. It is so easy for a breeder to sell a puppy on a spay/ neuter contract but hard to enforce once the puppy leaves you. People can make themselves seem like exactly what you want until they get what they want. I'm also not a breeder, but have friends who are. And I have seen this equation from the other side, twice as a puppy buyer (in both cases I visited, met the parents of the pups, had conversations with the breeders, etc.) and three times adopting older dogs. On one occasion the dog was shipped to me from Washington State…...but that was set up between the breeder in Washington who was looking for a home for a returned dog of hers and a breeder I had previously purchased a pup from, and who went with me to pick up the dog at the airport! I think it is best to have personal contact if you can, but you can get a fairly good "feel" for people by talking to them. Internet may work for an initial connection, but I would want telephone contact at the very least. I agree with Chealsie508 that "People can make themselves seem like exactly what you want until they get what they want." My close friend who breeds Pyrenees has had situations that seemed ideal turn out to be anything but, and on other occasions placements that she was a bit concerned about turned out to be just great. When in doubt, going with your instincts may work, but not always. No guarantees, and it is very difficult to enforce contracts once the dog is out of your hands. Once upon a time I thought I might sell a horse or two. Nope. Couldn't do it. Still got 'em, and they will die here. Glad I never bred my bitch! :)

Not seen this article three years ago last Oct we had to have blood for our cat. Cat's have blood types some what like people blood was not cheap. We tell him he got trash can kitty blood because after blood he wanted to eat table food never like that before. We also learned about blood when our akita was sick one was plasma and I do recall name of the other but it was really only good for 24 hours. Rita Jean

Also, as they are so cat like, folks don't understand their not "listening". So the corrections get harsher and harsher. Sigh. Education is the key for folks…until they do, we will have many dogs in the wrong homes.

The following site has them at a reasonable price plus if you click on Color/Pattern choices at the bottom of the page, you can see exactly how to measure your girl to get the correct size: http://nu-nee.tripod.com/bb.htm Whatever you decide to use try to remember that the likelihood they last more than a day is low unless you are incredibly vigilant. Personally, I gave up on the panties. The bleeding was never very much & Ella kept herself incredibly clean so I rarely saw or had blood spots to clean up. The worst were my sheets (yes, my spoiled B sleeps under the covers at my feet). I tried keeping panties on her but by morning they were shredded as well as sanitary napkin bits everywhere. It was cheaper just to change my sheets daily.
