Nicole destroys the sofa… again

  • Nice job Nicole! I have this chair in my living room that had one side of the cushion ripped up by one of my previous Basenjis. He ripped it up to let me know he was in bad pain from a bladder infection I failed to notice. Shame on me! Anyway it's held together with diaper pins and Buddy can't resist pulling that cushion off and taking out some more foam. I have to catch him quick at doing it.

I don't buy new furniture for this reason.

  • As it happens, Nicole also has a bladder infection at the moment but it's already being takenc are of as she's been on antibiotics for 3 days already 🙂

They have their unique ways of telling us things… My B pulled out some stuffing on my couch when he had a UTI. :o

  • Couches and chairs don't love you…b's do..that is what I tell my husband when he finds rips and tears...

  • i think it was that teddy bear. look closely at the pics, clearly Nicole is innocent

  • I have NEVER ever had the couch or a chair chewed up.
But, being the oddball that I am, I use crates in my house.
Basenjis are like little monkey-cat-toddler mixes…
you can trust them loose in the house...
    until you can't.

There are the rare gems that never chew anything up their entire life.
They are very rare and keepers for sure.

Crate training is the best way to avoid these kinds of messes.....
well, unless one was hoping to get a new sofa anyways...
    Dania here we come!

  • YES! The first picture clearly shows the teddy bear was up to no good!

  • I've about decided that when I don't have any more cute throws to toss over the mess my B has made of my sectional, that will be the time to replace it - hopefully she will be past the stage. She hasn't done anything in a while, so maybe some day soon. But, like Sharron says, the B's love us, the furniture doesn't. If my company comes to see what condition my house is in, they can stay away.

My B had his phase of furniture chewing. He grew out of it, fortunately, so I think sometimes you just have to work with them a bit and hope it discontinues.

  • Our Kell chewed the electric cord of my floor fan in half yesterday morning, not plugged in, and then in the afternoon for an encore ate the electric cord of my new and large crock pot in half, again just stored not in use. My days of keeping things on the low shelves are over.

Actually, I haven't either, but I hate to say things like that outloud. AND I have to admit, Digital the brindlewonderkid has always been allowed loose in the house pretty much from the time I got him which was at 10 months. He's also been left loose in his breeder's new house (not the one he knew) and he never touched a thing. Of course that's only part of the reason his moniker is "brindlewonderkid".

  • Lucky for those whose chewing is just a phase. Spring aged 13 is still chewing up her sofas!!

I had a basenji chew through a fan cord while it was running and got a little bit of a shock. Nothing serious, just a cord lesson.
