New title for an old dog

Basenji Talk
  • I'm happy to report that Digital received his TDIAOV title certificate a couple of days ago. A therapy dog is awarded the TDIAOV title after 150 hours/visits. Diggie will turn 15 in December and I'll post a birthday message then. I believe this brings his title count up to 30 (not counting his MVB or is ASCA titles). I'd also like to point out that Digital was my first competition dog of any sort and he's ALWAYS been owner-handled. Can you imagine what he could have accomplished with a more experienced handler?
    good boy.
    :)

  • Congrats to Digital and to YOU too, you are a team!

An agility dog is always an agility dog, no matter how old! And racers too I guess! None of mine are athletes but Nicky at 14 always amazes people, if you don't see her grey hairs or cataracts, you think she is much younger. Love the 'oldies but goodies'.

Too bad for the dog though. Hopefully all will settle down further as time goes on.

QUOTE=LeeL: I have noticed that it is a lot easier to accidentally train a Basenji than on purpose. ;) And not necessarily something you WANT them to learn!

Yep, he did both and did quite well. And yeah, I would definitely take him to the race meets and let him have a little fun. I have seen quite a few dogs in their teens enjoying a romp on the field. :) I don't know what lure coursing is in your area, but I do know there are races in MN, sounds like they're not too far from you? And race meets are usually a lot more accomodating as far as practices. Have fun Luny!

The only thing I would be concerned about with a Dachshund would be the possiblity of it having some back damage with the rough play of a basenji…or even trying to do the same acrobatics that Bs do. I have known some folks who had a lot of problems with disk and spine problems with Doxies...but I don't know if that is typical. Something to think about though...
