Buana did that once when he was a young dog… we were eating in de restaurant and we checked him almost every minute (he was plaing underneeth the table) and a minute later my mom says "hey, that's a great looking Basenji at the other site of the restaurant, playing with those people" OMG it's Buana!
They always are going with us to the restaurant, most people around us aks us when we leave "did you have those dogs during your whole time with you???" (they only could smell it from the little treats we have with us, they love it so much :D)

Hah, Paco did the same thing to his first leash when we leashed him in the kitchen with his food while we ate pizza in the next room. Had to get a new leash and switch to keeping him on the balcony for such occasions.

Blaze is famous at our vet's… he went in for surgery and while recovering, he ate his cone, the harness off of himself, the vet wrap on his leg, the three leashes and one vet assistant's coat hanging on his kennel, and his bedding. They removed everything.
He ate his neighbour's bedding, vet wrap, and was working on his cone when they caught him. This was through chainlink fence.
They weren't even surprised when I had to bring him in for eating an umbrella last year. -

One of my early basenjis had to have an op at the vets. It was the vet's practice to tie dogs recovering from surgery to the leg of a table in the recovery room. Guess what! The vet returned to find Bernie up and about and wandering round the room. He had eaten through the table leg. No leashes for him!!

Yup, three metal spines and the majority of the fabric. He also has a fish allergy, and of course the fabric was coated in a fish oil to repel water… his reaction to fish is known as "3-foot-rocket-butt". During his recovery, I was torn between relief, sympathy, anger, and disgust. The worst part... he was 14 when he did that! Thankfully he's slowed down since then...
I do it for the snuggles. As long as he's not shooting anything out of his rear, he's welcome on my bed for snuggles.:D -

Lupine leashes are the best. Anne - I hope they never come up with a "void if chewed by a basenji" clause. We would be in big trouble.
My parents had the pups one time and Kona chewed through Keoki's leash and my mom said I thought they had a warranty that they couldn't be chewed!! I had to explain that they weren't chew-proof, just that they can be replaced if chewed.

He ate a lot of strange stuff over the years.... $17,000 worth of venetian blinds in my parent's hot tub room was the most expensive. The scariest was the AAA battery from the TV remote...
Today he destroyed three granola bars while we were gone. Not really impressive until one realizes that we haven't had granola bars in this house for a few months. He stashes things to eat and destroy! -

My Mother left my first Basenji, Nipper in the house asleep on Halloween night 1975 when she was 10 months old. When I got home at midnight I could not get the door open. The dog ripped back the carpet. I finally pushed the door open with all my strength and upon inspection found the living room and dining room curtains shredded and pulled down. Mom was not a happy camper.:mad: She got new curtains, I fixed the carpet and all was OK.:D -
My foster had surgery for intestinal surgery-50% removed due to carpet fibers slicing and had to stay for 3-4 days at the hospital. She was trying to get to the leashes hanging by her crate. I told the surgeon that if she had to have surgery again, the clinic would be financially responsible for it. I had forewarned them about Bs being chewers.
