• Hello Basenji Forums Community.

I've been reading the forum for awhile and figured I should finally register.
I got my basenji in april 09 and she just turned a year old a couple days ago. Her name is Q and I got her from a breeder in southern wisconsin. My roommates in college had 2 of them and I've wanted to get one ever since. I bought my first house a couple years ago and wanted to get a dog, and the basenji was my first choice, it just took a little while to find one around here.

  • Welcome to the forum. Q is a beautiful black and white!

  • Welcome to Basenji Forums!

  • Hello! Welcome to the forum! How far north in WI are you? I live in the Green Bay area. There is a regional basenji club (www.bcosw.org) you can join if you want to get involved with any local basenji-related activities.

I live in Wabeno, about 90 miles north of GB. I've looked at their web site before and would love to get my dog in the lurecoursing event they have in Somers. I have the land to make my own, so I'm actually contemplating doing that too. Otherwise, they are pretty far away from me to attend events with any frequency.

  • Welcome! She is a lovely girl,of course I am prejudiced toward black basenjis! With a nice bit of land, isn't it about time for her to have a playmate? They are like potato chips, you know!

  • Welcome from your neighbor to the west. Not too often do we see black&whites up here - a beautiful one too!
In addition to the lure coursing there's also a few racing events (straight line and oval) in the general region. I think if you stay in touch with the BCOSW you'll find several different activities to try.

Yeah, there is lots of traveling involved to do basenji-related events. Most of them occur in the southern WI/northern IL area. There is some lure coursing in the Racine area but I think that is as far as north as it gets.

And I forgot to mention, your b/w girl is very pretty! I'm lucky to have one too and she is about the same age.

I think most of the b/w basenjis in MN probably can be found in one house in the SE part of the state. 😃

  • Welcome.

I am in Chicago, but am also a member of BCOSW.

Which breeder did you get Q from? What is her registered name?

Just asking because it is fun to see how our dogs are related.

  • Welcome to the forum! Q is very pretty!!

  • Welcome from the UK. What a pretty girl Q is.

You are all so lucky that you have Basenji clubs where you can meet up regularly. It must be a great comfort for newer owners too, toget plenty of advice.

In the UK we only have 3 Basenji clubs and they are all mainly concerned with showing. Their meetings 2 - 3 times a year are at venues well over 100 miles from us. There is very rarely anything apart from the shows and so others who don't show have very little opportunity to socialise and get to know each other. Thart's what makes this forum so interesting.

100 miles would be nice! I'm driving about 150 miles just to eat lunch with our club this weekend. I'm a bit away from the nexus of basenji activity around Chicago so I usually have to drive about 3-4 h at least to do anything. But it's worth it.

  • You've heard the joke about one difference between Brits and Americans?

Americans think 100 years is a long time, and Brits think 100 miles is a long way. 🙂

My friend Jane told me this joke when I was trying to get her to drive 3 hours from London to Wales on a whim, and it made her very nervous.

In my case 3-4 hours would be nice. Here where I live it is 2.5 hrs to Liyah's breeders and then another 6-9 hours to anywhere there was a major (NY - PA) last year. I'd LOVE 3-4 hrs. :D:D:D
