Beau has decided to take things out of the garbage in protest of being gated in the kitchen. The wierd thing is it is only in protest, he doesnt eat anything he just takes it out of the garbage usually the diapers and strategically places articles around the kitchen. He is so silent while doing this I have yet to catch him. I know i should move the garbage can into the pantry so he cant get to it but we use the can to block the litter box from the dogs since both our dogs have a taste for "kitty chocolates?". Another thing he does is when he gets seperated from me he poops… He could have just went outside and did his business but if i leave for the gas station he will find the energy to realease another present for me on the kitchen floor. I hate crating him and i dont think he likes it either, and i feel like a bad mommy. He screams and crys if i crate him up and i can hear him half way down the block when i come home from the gas station, so yeah thats a no go. Also he wont be a good boy on the leash. I dont know how many dogs i have leash trained ( i have worked at kennels and doggy day cares and a vet) i know i know how to leash train a dog... Beau aint havin it. He even gives me the dirty eye when i correct him or suddenly change directions to get him to pay attention. I am thinking about switching to a nose lead or a chest lead but i have never had to use these b4 if you have let me know how they work. I think that is all of his naughtiness. Despite his quirks he is awesome and i dont want to complain i just want him to feel comfortable enough that he doesnt feel it neccessary to have a bowel when im out of the house for 5 minutes lol. any ideas would be totally awesome and appreciated.

RE: Hello new basenji owner in Wisconsin
That would be so cool to hook up sometime my fiance's uncle has a basenji too so it could be a little pack playdate!!!! I am totally up for it, but it would probably be best if we wait awhile. Beau was an unexpected addition to the family, so I have to save money for awhile to take him to the vet, but when he gets everything squared away I so would love to set something up. There is a fenced dog park by the airport down here it is supposed to be awesome. I would love to be able to let him off a leash and see what he is capable of.

RE: Wondering what the scars on my pup could be
My lovely Beau has developed a naughty habit… I came home from a festival and apparently he destroyed my blinds trying to follow me, then he opened a sentry bag that was on the dinner table and pulled out a brand new loaf of bread and he and our gorden setter, Walker, ate the whole loaf. Also when I leave him he leaves bowels in my daughters bedroom floor. How can we only have had the little guy about 2 weeks now and he already has seperation anxiety? Is it because I'm a stay at home mom and dont get out much? He watches me like a hawk and has to be where I am. If my fiance' is home he is a good boy but he paces and will just sit in the window waiting for me to return. I think he might be scaired of the dark too. Can dogs be scaired of the dark?

RE: Hello new basenji owner in Wisconsin
I never realized there were so many Basenji owners around here I am so going to check out that basenji club Wizard thanks I didnt even know there was one.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to get him to quit begging and taking food off the table? He will even put his little feet up on the edge to see if there is anything good to go for on the kitchen table. When telling him no didn't work we tryed to lay boundries by useing our body to force him out of the area (like on the dog whisperer) He doesn't care so we closed him in the kitchen with the baby gate. How high can basenjis jump cuz he is very impressive. He already jumped the baby gate at my mother in laws house, mine is taller so he hasn't yet. He even puts his nose into the babys lap in the high chair and when i take her out of the chair he is up on his hind legs looking for left overs. He doesn't like water… do you think nailing him with a water gun or spray bottle would be too mean? Never had a beggar b4 need help lol -
RE: Wondering what the scars on my pup could be
totally those explanations are all we could think of too, and the scar goes all the way around under the bottom too. It seems to be healed there isn't any redness or anything, I hope it grows some hair back but it really doesn't look like it will. I still think he is the cutest thing ever with it anyhow so if it doesnt bother him it wont bother me lol:).

Hi we decided to name him Beau. It seems to suit him lol. My uncle thinks he is about 6 months old. Im in milwaukee, Wi. And I finally managed to post some pics of him at first the site was saying i didnt have a security token, but eventually it let me post anyhow. Everyone in this forum is so nice and helpful already thank you guys so much I'm sure I will need the help if B's are as naughty as people are telling me they can be lol.

RE: Wondering what the scars on my pup could be
you could see more of him then you should be able to, but he is already fattening up and isnt showing any signs of food aggression so i think he will be ok.

RE: Wondering what the scars on my pup could be
I want to thank every one for looking at my post I cant get the pics on this site yet they are saying i need a security token and i need to find out what that is. We thought it might be from a muzzle or sumthin right away but the scar is a perfect circle around his muzzle about the width of a rubber band. It just seems to be too perfect for him to have done it. He doesn't howl at all he just kind of hums and sings under his breath it is the cutest thing ever. My uncle has a basenji and he says Beau looks like he is about 6 months old.
