The only reasons I would not crate little bs with big bs is (1) I don't want any fighting so you would have to play that one by ear (2) If the little one potties in the crate accidentally the big b has to suffer too. But I only have 1 so thats all I could think of

Are you stressed out? She may be vibing off of you. When things are hectic and you are stressed the pup gets that way too. She may just be acting out based on what she feels from you. Failing that… try cheese or whatever high value treat you have. Every time you come up to an obstacle, calm yourself and then the pup before you reach it. Once she calms down treat. It works with Indy.

Bdawg, I love those short talkie sounds. Katie does those all the time. I especially love the 2:00 minute mark when Lexi throws herself to the floor, just like a toddler in a temper tantrum!! Ty has always been a yodeler/howler and rapid tail wagger, but he never acquired the shorter "speech patterns". Katie is the mouthier short speech maker, but only yodels as a greeting to immediate family or to remind of a forgotten treat. She also only wags when extremely excited (ie.."look what I just stole" moments)

I take Blaze to the second home pet resort just north of Leduc. Even though he's eaten several leashes, blankets, jackets, and caused general mayhem, they take amazing care of him, and always smile when we come in. They follow his medical needs and keep me updated. I get the medium kennel, which is indoor and outdoor, and they let Blaze play with the big dogs, which he prefers…

Indy has a "Large" size wire crate from walmart. We decked it out with a king size comforter, two fleece blankets, and a life size "puppy" stuffed animal. Then we throw in a deer antler and two of his favorite stuffed toys and tell him to have at it. So far no problems. The other cool thing about this crate is that dh made him a "deck" ontop. We put the kennel next to the couch so he can climb up the top and onto the deck. He hangs out there and looks out the window all day long sometimes. When he was younger we put the divider in, but once he showed us that he knew pottying in his crate was not ok we just let him have all the room. So far so good.

Janneke, maybe they will ship one to you? I know that WWW won't deal directly with owners, but maybe some of the vendors/stores that carry them will be willing to ship to you? Wizard, they usually use those collars for whippets and other sighthounds because the head is very narrow and not much bigger than the neck. Collars easily slip off so they often use a martingale style. Also they make them extra wide so they don't cut into the dog, it makes it more comfortable since they tend to have longer thin delicate necks. They're not heavily muscled like other breeds. And if they pull like Basenjis, it's good to have a wider collar to spread the pressure out! :) Less likely to damage the trachea.

You can see the love you have for your Aiden, and Maverick, he is just adorable. So glad you have another B, they are just the best, and I am sure they will get along fine, growing up together. I hope to have another by this time next year, I just love this breed. Good Luck, and more pics when you have the time.

Funny funny story - after the fact of course. Although we do occasionally get woodchucks (same as groundhogs for those of you in the eastern states) and lots of other creatures, I haven't seen one in quite awhile here. However, my first basenji caught a young muskrat/marshrat who was stupidly trying to cut through our yard and treated him just like he did his toys - " few quick snaps and the stuffing started flying".

Yes, Mojo is like that too Andrea. He loves to play with Auntie Sue at the shows. :) He can get a bit rough sometimes with others, but it is all in fun to him. And he has always been so gentle with puppies.

@Jarodkjv: Since someone is always home with the dogs a better choice may be the Playsafe collar, it is designed for daycare type settings. It won't open by itself but it has velcro tabs that can be pulled open easily even if the dogs are tangled up. The advantage would be that you could use it to hold them without worrying about it accidently opening. But it's not really designed to have a leash hooked to it so you would have to put a regular collar on them if you were going to take them out. That looks like a great alternative and I do think I'll give them a try. Although the dogs wear regular collars in the house, we always use martingales or sporn harnesses when we walk them. I found the website interesting and was fascinated by the dog cold weather gear. Don't need it here but it was still fascinating. Those of you who live where there is snow - Would your dogs really wear a long legged, full body snow suit? Check out the Arctic Fleeces. http://www.faithfulpetproducts.com/CoatsFloatsBoots.html Pat

I sympathize! Jayden is a snorer. He doesn't snore during the night but does snore when he sleeps on the sofa while we watch TV in the evening. It is surprising how much noise they can make. Pat

@rammaam: The only way to bath my two, is to take them into the shower. I use the sprayer with hose. My husband get in the shower and bathes them and I hold the other so he does not escape the bathroo. Then its his turn. While he getting his shower, i'm drying his sister, (with lots of help). It ends up with everyone soaked. lol… Mya showers as well. She just can't stand the bath. But she'll tolerate the shower. :p

And don't be fooled when someone says "oh he's a little angel". EL D came to me with a reputation as being very destructive but never did any damage once I got him home and my current Luny had a reputation for being very nice in the house and turns out he has a severe anxiety problem and will destroy anything by the door if I leave with him loose. So be sure to watch the pup/dog for awhile to see how s/he acts on its own and with other dogs and also pay attention to how a dog reacts to you, a stranger.

You do realize that since Redmund has been a succesful deer hunter, he will continue to pursue them. The comment about CWD should be taken seriously as should the comment that he is engaging in risky behavior. Yes these dogs were hunters in Africa, but this isn't Africa and these dogs aren't wild but our companions.

Kelli…I think you're right about the altered gait...I worried about that as well just because of how both my b's walk with just a coat or sweater on, so I've never tried booties. Obviously they are uncomfortable with clothing, so consequently I stopped trying to get them to wear them for that very reason...I was afraid they would learn to walk differently. I even went so far as to have $150 custom sweater knit (with hand painted yarn) for Ruby that was made specifically to all her measurements. Looks cute & fits her to a "t", but she won't walk in it. Good thing I didn't opt for the cashmere. I'm thinking I'll donate it to Pam & Sheila...maybe it can go home with one of Ruby's grand kids. It would look stunning on a black & white b because it is so colourful. Oh, and I will say, that the kids LOVE it when I put Musher's Secret on their paws...they act like they are getting a spa treatment.:D Brando even lets out contented sighs while I'm rubbing it in. :D Anyway, I know my b's and I KNOW that the boots would be torn to shreds in about 2 seconds...given how they've tried to get the coat/sweater when they are on.

Yep, he did both and did quite well. And yeah, I would definitely take him to the race meets and let him have a little fun. I have seen quite a few dogs in their teens enjoying a romp on the field. :) I don't know what lure coursing is in your area, but I do know there are races in MN, sounds like they're not too far from you? And race meets are usually a lot more accomodating as far as practices. Have fun Luny!
