It sounds like one of my Basenji's (Bungwa) ears. He is losing hair in patches on his ears. I first put it down to him pushing his head through the wire fence but thinking back one of his predecessors had the same but also his nose as you describe. It's a very long time ago and i can't remember how we trated it nor what causes it. I'm off to the vet with him next week for a diagnosis and treatment.

I'll be interested to hear what your vet thinks.

My first Basenji, Nipper gave me and my Mother a good surprise. This happened on Halloween in 1975 when she was 10 months old. I went out with my friends earlier in the evening and my Mother seeing the dog sleeping nicely on the couch decided to leave her in alone going out herself for the evening. We would usually put her out if we were leaving. Well she woke up at one point and didn't like being left alone and this is what she did. When I got home at around midnight I tried to open the door from the garage leading into the kitchen. I could not open it, pushing and pushing. I finally pushed it open as the carpet had been ripped back. When I looked around the house the curtains in the living room were shredded. Mom was a bit upset and said she needed to go. I got Nipper from her best friend. The next day I got an extra piece of carpet and fixed it and you couldn't even tell anything happened, Mom got new curtains and all was forgiven. Needless to say that Basenji was wonderful and was my best friend for 17-1/2 years.

I swear, she looks humiliated! SO funny!

My Nika's eye got cloudy to the point of flicking your finger at it got no response then the eye turned blood red. Went to the eye vet and it turns out the lens inside the eye slipped. I had to give her other eye these very expensive eye drops called Xalatan or Travatan that kept the pressure down and the pupil small but even then the lens was moving around a little.

Hello, I just wanted to send a quick update on Nulla. She is doing so well!
We started a dog training course where my boyfriend and I are the alpha dogs. There is not treats involved and it has shown amazing results. Nulla has been in the course for about a month now. We have had no eating problems from her (no barfing, no not eating what we set our for her), no behavioral problems (no chewing my shoes, etc). She seems so happy and I am sure she is gaining weight (although I have not weighed her).
I think dog training is completely necessary and we've seen HUGE results in Nulla. Everything I posted about before is no longer a concern. Thanks for all the input though. Take Care 🙂

Colbey does what we call the "head whip" he'll be all cuddled up with us, hear something and whip his head around. Often it results in hitting us with his head!

The smacking, Indy used to do just before he would spit out a tooth, so maybe something in the back is bothering her, might want to take a look.

The snuffing, ya Indy does that especially when he gets a snout full of dust he is young so he always looks REALLY confused when it happens he he

I live DT and have a 5 year old black and white girl and a four yearl old boy.

I was told that if it is an intestinal bug, giving an anti-diarrheal upon onset will slow the bodys natural ability to evacuate the nasty virus, and the 'bug' can in fact regroup in the intestines and come back even stronger.

Fluids are key. Dehydration can happen so fast.

After the diarrhea slows, try feeding active culture yougart (I use Activia)to re-introduce the 'good' bacteria back into digestive tract. This along with the soft boiled diet and Gatorade or Pedialyte in the water, seems to do the trick with my older male.

I've never heard about breeders recommending waiting till they are over a yr old, that is something completely new 😕 😕

there are other threads about this topic. A lot of breeders suggest waiting until about a year old, so that physically the dog is mature before the removal of the sex hormones.

I would say *most breeders suggest between six months to a year is great. A lot of people would prefer that their bitch not go through a first heat cycle, and that their male not start lifting his leg…which can happen around six months old.
