Maya's New Baby Chihuahua

Show Off Your Dog
  • I have temporarily taken in my mums new 14 week old baby chihuahua Lexi to do some show training with her ready for the ring :D She moved in tonight and i thought i may as well start right away with getting the others used to her - I think Lexi will be boss in this house  She is a fiesty little madam!! Maya thinks its her new baby (she recently had a season and has had a phantom pregnancy so is feeling very maternal  ) and is just doting on her!

    LOTS of photos!

    Getting Told off!!!

  • Looks like it's working out nicely. Perfect timing for the pup in that Maya wants to mother her. Most Chihuahuas are feisty.

  • The pup is not overly keen on Maya trying to pin her down and wash her face and ears! She's told Maya off a couple of times, hopefully Maya will take the hint. She is the same with Delilah the pug and it drives poor Lilah nuts. Maya is the most maternal dog i've ever known, will probably be useless with her own babies though lol.

  • great pics Jess.

  • She is cute but I am confused about "show training" a pup that isn't even 4 mos old. Man, you'd have to pry that young of baby from my cold dead hands! I had a hard time letting Sayblee out on the circuit at 8 mos with a handler for weekends, lol! What training do you do that the owners aren't capable of at that tender age? I knew a few chihuaua breeders here btw, and they don't even place their pups til 12 weeks.

LOL you need to video them! Not sure who my sympathy is, with washer or washee!

LOL though at least Maya is fixed on her own kind. My Rottie had false pregnancy and decided the baby hedgehogs were her puppies!

  • Yes - at least it's a another canine for Maya to mother - mine have all sorts of strange 'babies' when they are feeling broody - one had a rat and aniother a toad!!!! ! Lovely pictures but I too was confused by 'show training' - won't she be bored by the time she gets in the ring?

  • I particularly like the 2nd & 3rd pictures from the bottom. The one with Lexi's nose up Delilah's butt is too cute!

  • Oh, not proper "show training" lol

Just getting her used to standing on a table, walking on a lead, taking her out and about with me (im not working for a few weeks so have a lot of spare time!) and getting her socialised :D I volunteered as i have yet to have a chihuahua to train and I thought i may as well take Lexi on as i have the time and it should be fun training a new breed :D

She will also start ringcraft this week which should be good socialisation for her :)

ETA: I am the owner technically! Me and my mum own her in partnership :D

The third pic was when Maya was washing Lexi's ears. She has an obsession with ears :D

Arlene, lol, I do want to add something. Others wondered about being so close to a pup and letting it go. But I admit that I have gotten more joy from the love of a pup I "let go" and the love they gave and got from their new home than almost any I kept. I have rarely believed I was the ONLY or even best home for any dog. My chow/coyotee and Sayblee being 2 exceptions. I just got a "thank you, I love you" from a chow mix I placed 12 yrs ago with one of my best friends. Sally died 8 yrs later, and a woman I had never met but who was friends/neighbors with my friend (the one who is starting a new line btw) offered to take sweet Rachel as she also had adopted her litter mate from me. Donna died about a 2 yrs later with cancer, but Rachel is still doing fine. Her children have grown up with those dogs, her son distraught soon after they got Donna that he couldn't take her for show and tell. :) Count me in on those who understand placing a dog can bring and be joyful. Obviously you have found a great home.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words! Yes Rescuing is the best option. Sure it is a no kill shelter but it makes room for new dogs to be rescued and it puts her in a wonderful home! She is SLOWLY coming along. She likes to try to come up in my lap now. Shes a wonderful lil dog and Anubis LOVES having someone his size around. She "Smiles" she will get excited and show all of her teeth and wag her tail…I try to get pics but she always gets scared of the camera.

Great pictures! It's wonderful when they all get to play with other dogs - my girls' favorite days are when they go to the park. Although we love them to love us, it's true that what dogs love most is other dogs.
