New way of saying Goodbye

    My B does the same thing. No greeting upon my arrival home, but when I leave it's him nipping (playful of course) at my leg, trying to grab on to me with his paws, etc.

    When I get home, it's almost like he's just staring at me from the couch saying "Yea…. I got over it..... the couch stuffing made me forget about your departure".

    Everyday I leave, Buddy get's little pieces of chicken breast treat piled on a paper towel and he so excited. I put it down and scoot out the door asap. He knows when it's getting close to when I have to leave and he follows me around the house "when are you gonna leave so I can get my treats"!

    Hansel sits at the stairs so he can go to kennel and get a treat. He just sits there patiently watching, waiting, sighing, "COME ON MOMMA< LETS GET A TREAT!"

    Nobarkus, I can't just set the treat down and scoot. I have to stand at the door, throw it and run. We call treats yummies at our house.

    In my house Sonny will no longer take a treat from me because he thinks its a sign I'm leaving the house..He turns his head at me & starts to whine!!! I no longer even offer him a treat when I leave the house but so far he will only eat the treat if I leave it on the floor and he waits for me to be sitting on the couch before he'll touch it…MY CRAZY BASENJI!!

    My B is sort of like that also. He won't take a treat from my hand, I have to leave it on the ground for him to inspect thoroughly and then he'll eat it.

    My boy is 8 yrs old and I guess there are days he doesn't want me to leave for work. As I am going down the stairs to the garage he will stick his head through the rails and nip the sleeve of my coat. Kinda like hey where are you going? He doesn't do it every day. I would say 1 day out of 5.

    Otis has the same little quirks..he won't come in from outside should I call him in, in his mind that means " oh shoot, I am about to get crated", even though that is far from the truth..not even treats will bring him in, he rather sit out there in 30 or so degrees shaking his butt off, than to trust that he is not getting crated..crazy..

    Heh, I find it funny Kananga is so excited to go outside when put his leash/collar on. I always say to him "Now, are you absoloutely sure -10 degrees will be that exciting?".

    As soon as that subzero wind hits his face, he goes from happy to "let me do my business and let's get out of here!".

    that's funny….sonny does a happy dance when I pick up his coat to go for our 6am walk in the morning. I'm sure not happy about it at that hour!:D

    Having grown up and spent a lot of time in the mt farm area, when people routinely shot dogs for LOOKING wrong at a chicken, refusing to give up a bird when hunting etc, I didn't really fixate on the training methods when I saw it as a child nor in the years since. I am glad things have changed, but training was what it was and every animal was a commodity of some sort, not just a pet.

    The only disappointing thing for me was that the vocalizations certainly appeared to be faked. Too bad they didn't manage to capture actual Basenji vocalizations. They used Dolphin sounds which is really hilarious, Basenjis sound like dolphins, who knew?

    She was just spayed saturday..she's having trouble holding it for more than 30 minutes or so at a time…this evening she has seemed to have done better..2 hrs without having a problem..i take her out every 4 hrs..and she does her business..both..she's only lived here for 2 days..so it's really hard to get any real data yet..if it continues after a few days i will be taking her to the vet to see if it's UTI related. we're getting a crate this evening so i can see if it's a matter of her needing to be housebroken..or if she really is still having pressure from the surgery. Auriaya..our cat..seems to be in an ok mood today..she has kept to her larger part of the house..and i have been keeping Cambria to a smaller area until the two have had enough encounters on their own and ours to attempt putting them together..she's not marking in front of me. she's due for a vet visit anyway so i have scheduled it as well..we'll see if there is anything major wrong with her

    Need new crate

    @Gabriel: I have a small travel type crate that I put Noel in while we are away from home and at night. she is 14 weeks. She is really getting to big for this. What types of crates do you keep your B's in? I am looking at a medium size cage type kennel. 30L x 19W x 21H inches I want to be sure she has plenty of room to lay down in it. What is your advice? i got a crate big enough 4 a large dog. like a lab or something simular. I had 2 get the travel crate because in a wire crate she would pull things into the crate and eat it. comforters rugs you name it. She even ate her bed. fluff everywhere.

    I have decided to keep Baroo, and I hate to be so back and forth on the issue, but I am sure you have all been there at some point and understand. I am going to start a new post, so please see that one for further explaination. Thanks for all of your advice so far, I know I will be needed more now though!

    Thanks for your replies. I've started giving Sonia Glucosamine w/ MSM every day and we'll see how she does. I'll give you an update in about a month and let you know if it's helped or not.
