Where is that dog???

Show Off Your Dog
  • So cute, great pictures.
Otis will do the same thing, but he is all the way under, cuddly as all get out..

  • Benji used to sleep under the covers and sometimes the cats would come into the bedroom and jump on the bed. The funniest thing was sometimes they would be on top of him without realising and start kneading, all you could hear were low growls as they trod him like a grape :D

  • And here I thought my prima donna teenage girls were special…
Lola flat out INSISTS I hold the blankets open for her to crawl under. She uses her cold nose to peck at my face and shoulders until I comply. She started this the very FIRST night she was home with us! She came home from the breeder's like this, and she never slept in a bed at the breeder's, so I don't know where on earth she got this from.
Callie will give me the creepy stare until I lift the blankets for her. She slept in a crate with her littermate at night before she came to live with me, and it took her a couple of weeks to figure out where Lola was going at night. Since then, she insists on being under the covers as well.
They will both sleep all day under the covers if I let them.
Two months after Callie came home to live with us, I went out of town, and Callie's breeder kept Lola & Callie for the weekend. They both slept in separate crates downstairs (dogs aren't allowed upstairs at the breeder's house). In the middle of the night, Callie's breeder woke up to find Callie in bed with her! She had escaped out of her crate, jumped a babygate & found a cozy bed to sleep in. No more crates for her!

  • :D :D your post made me laugh Andrew

  • @Andrew:

That's too funny! Smart Callie! :D

  • And for some weird reason, the breeder thinks I spoil my girls…. I can't imagine why :D

I'm glad i'm not the only one with with a B that insists we raise the blanket/covers for them. Even when I do, I usually get woken up in the middle of the night with paws in my face. They feel the need to stretch out because they are now warm… :D

  • Magnum is under/over the covers a number of times every night. The weird thing is, if he's under, he prefers to snuggle against my husband, if he's over, he prefers to snuggle with me. (I think I overheat him when he's under (my DH starting calling me his furnace…when that certain point of a woman's life started) and I'm also a very restless sleeper.)

Leave it to a Basenji to let you know exactly what his wishes are!

  • Sonny's favorite place is under the blankets! One day a few weeks ago I had gotten out of the shower and usually he's right there waiting for me. this day he was no where to be found. its hard to loose a crazy basenji in a small place. but I couldn't find him anywhere. UNTIL I noticed a snoring lump on the bed under the covers. He had never gotten in the bed before without me being there 1st…Now its' the firts place I look when he disappears! :p

  • lilu doesn't like being under the covers much, she just tries her hardest to find her way out lol. cute pics everyone!

  • Love the pics of Sonny, he looks so comfy and warm.
Here are a couple of pics of my last Basenji, Benji

I used Wisdom Panel for my assumed Basenji mix. It showed no basenji at all. My boy is 32 lbs and short hair. His DNA says he is 25% American Eskimo 12.5% Boston Terrier 12.5% Chow Chow 12.5% German Shepherd 12.5% Miniature Schnauzer 25% Breed Group-Sporting, Herding, Hound, Terrier. Having owned basenjis all my life I would say my boy has basenji in him by his personality and behavior regardless of what his dna says!!

We are J J and Karin, Kansas City, Mo. Both of our kids are rescues, Itty Bitty Basenji now 5 years old, originally from Craigs List and Mr Baroo, now about 2 years old, a BRAT adoption. We have no idea where they came from or exactly how old they actually are. Bitty is the more delicate little girl with the white face, Baroo is the more muscular boy with the totally red head. @Lovelace: Really? What ones? I don't know of any that have all the criteria? I've done extensive research on the breeds, and i'm curious I don't recall any. I think Pat means lots of dogs have one or more of these traits. Those three things all together MAY be an indication that the dog does have some basenji in it…but not for sure. Because the dog could be a boxer/husky mix...and end up with right color/markings, pointy ears, a curly tail, and have wrinkle on the forehead (lots of dogs have wrinkles around the face). Rat terriers are notorious for looking like Basenjis...but the shape of their head is slightly different, and the breed was founded using some Basenji way back. Another thing to remember is that after several generations of mixing, all dogs tend to go back to a natural or pariah dog shape...squarish, brown, pointy ears, slightly curled tail...that is just the natural phenotype of "dog"...so a dog might end up looking Basenji-ish even if there is no actual Basenji there. I am not refering specifically to the OP...that dog does look like it might have some Basenji in it..or Rat terrier...but it is REALLY hard to say for sure. It doesn't matter really, because everyone is welcome here...Basenji, mix, B-look alike...welcome...
