    Only just found this thread, huge congrats Shelley, that is fantastic news!!

    I can also say that she has chosen a very respected, responsible breeder. I am benched next to this breeder at almost all the shows and she is certainly very knowledgeable about the breed and is very much in favour of health testing :)

    I also dont think it is odd that Shelley does not want to share the litter details. I was the same with Maya, until she was officially mine i did not want to talk too much about it (didnt want to tempt fate!!), and also if the breeder wants to discuss her breeding im sure she could come on here herself to do it, all the pedigrees and health testing are on the internet for people to see anyway though :)

    We are getting a bitch, i like Malaika (swahili for Angel), Hubbys not to sure about shouting that out though, the other names are Freya or Milly. We have had other suggestions regarding the birthdate, Eve and Hope.

    I really like Malaika and Freya. You can always shorten Malaika to Laika ;)

    I realy like Malaika but dont know if i'l be able to convince Howard. I also like the name Laika but it reminds me of the terribly sad story of Laika the space dog :(

Right now is the time she must learn you can check her teeth, look between her toes, check her ears, etc. At some point in life, it may be critical, so training her NOW is important. But it can also be relationship building and fun. :) Mary has one of the easiest to follow sites. You just start working on training so that she comes to see you as the one to guide her.     Welcome…no breeding info. from me, but I'm certain you'll get lots of feedback and have fun with others who share your passion for Basenjis! I got mine from a NH breeder and we live in VT. Enjoy!

    I think an original idea should be developed that is associated with bs. The weims dressed up is so classic for them. Bs should somehow be associated with messes. Maybe they should be paired with new furniture advertising or TP sales!!! Weims became so popular tho, they are having probs in rescue. They are very high energy and most people can't give them enough exercise. I think my idea would prevent Bs from becoming too popular and lots more ending up in rescue. :D

    The only thing I would be concerned about with a Dachshund would be the possiblity of it having some back damage with the rough play of a basenji…or even trying to do the same acrobatics that Bs do. I have known some folks who had a lot of problems with disk and spine problems with Doxies...but I don't know if that is typical. Something to think about though...
