Dog Show in Mo

Jaycee went to her second show today. Yes she was the only one in her class so of course she got 1st place. Jaycee in her second round had two other's no she did not win but the judge took Eli to a side and told him. Practice a little more and to keep at it she was going to be a winner. She looked really great.
Eli and Jaycee did great for this to have been 2nd time in ring and never a class to learn but now that her season is over we will be going to class. There was a really nice man with whippets that talked with Eli and helped him to handle lead better showed him a few things that was really nice. Told Eli they looked great he just had to get a better handle on the lead. Good day we are so very proud of Eli and Jaycee.Rita Jean

Glad to hear of the warm reception and tips from the seasoned folks. As Eli and Jaycee practice together, they will become more polished.

Steve video the whole thing I have not even looked at yet after we got home I went in and took a nap. Sunday rest day get video out and see what we can do with it.
Had a really good time just so many dogs there were lots of large dogs today.

Rita Jean, I was looking at the results and noticed that you have Eli showing Jaycee in Amateur Owner Handled but Eli is NOT one of Jaycee's owners. They are not eligible for this class unless you change Jaycee's ownership to you and Eli. I think it is a $15 fee to do a transfer of ownership. The form is on the back of her registration papers.

I didn't even notice that from the first shows that you entered… but lvoss is correct.... Eli needs to be an owner on Jaycee to be able to show in that class

I'm glad to here Eli and Jaycee's second show went so well. It's definitely a learning curve when both the handler and the dog are both novices…as I am definitely speaking as one. I accidently tripped my puppy with the lead last time I was in the ring and nearly caused a train wreck with everyone behind me. I think I'm still rattled from it much more than she ever was.

She no longer qualifies for Novice because she has gotten first place twice now. She does qualify for the puppy class.

And I believe that the AO class replaces the old novice class, she can enter her in Am Bred or Open. Not remembering how old Jaycee is, but I think she is still OK for puppy 9 to 12 or 12 to 18 months.
In all reality, the AO class was really not set up to be only like the Novice class or a class for people that are new to showing, it was more set up for the person that owns their dog and shows it, but is not the breeder so not qualified for Bred by class. Obviously with all the classes, all are welcome that qualify to be in that class, but the intention of the AO class was a place for "owner/handlers" to show their dogs with no professional handlers in the class.
So if I were to purchase a puppy, it would be a perfect class for me to show in as I have never been a professional handler (accept payment for showing other peoples dogs)

AOH did not replace the Novice class but since each club can choose if they want to offer these classes many are choosing to offer AOH and not offer Novice.
Here are the descriptions of these two classes.
SECTION 6. The Novice Class shall be for dogs six
months of age and over, which have not, prior to the
date of closing of entries, won three first prizes in the
Novice Class, a first prize in Bred-by-Exhibitor,
American-bred, or Open Classes, nor one or more
points toward their championships.SECTION 7. The Amateur-Owner-Handler class
shall be for dogs that are at least six months of age that
are not champions. Dogs must be handled in the class
by the registered owner of the dog. This class is
restricted to exhibitors who have not, at any point in
time, been a professional dog handler, AKC approved
conformation judge, or employed as an assistant to a
professional handler. Additionally, members of the
immediate family or household of a current professional
handler are ineligible for this class (as defined in
Chapter 11, Section 13) -
Thanks Lisa, I couldn't remember if they dropped the Novice class or just left it as optional. I know for our Specialty shows (BCONC) we have not offered Novice for a while, but elected this year to have AO
