If you have more than one Dog Do they work together to get you up in the Morning?

Basenji Talk
  • My dogs don't sleep with me. They sleep out in the living room. As my guys are older its usually me waking them up. My girl (12yr old) will look at me like do I really have to go outside, you know we have a doggie door I can go whenever. But my husband gets up at 3:30 and leaves the house around 4:00am. He says the dogs sleep right through his leaving the house.

  • That's a good one – ha ha my Basenjis getting me up in the morning!
NO. Mine are both late sleepers who resent it when I have to get them up before 8 AM.
If I have to leave the house and so have to put them out to potty and get them fed early, there is much grumbling and complaining. They potty, they eat, they go back to bed.

On a stay at home day, it is seldom before 8 AM that they even stir in their beds, and often closer to 9AM. And that is with the whole family up and moving about.

  • Mosly Indy and Lori just work together to get in trouble. They have figured out how to get the roll of toilet paper off the holder. Indy will grab the holder and lori the toilet paper and run in opposite directions. Good thing they are only about $1.50 to replace or I would have a pair of basenji skin boots!

LOL on the entire repertoire. That was my chow/coyote. I would just wait til she stopped and give THE command (or give it again if she started AFTER I had given it.. but most of the time she started the second she knew I had a treat) when she was ready to listen. But it was cute.

Jaycee digs same way but she does somersaults head down over she gos first time neighbor saw it they could not beleive it. I think neighbor came over every day for a week waiting to see it again and Jaycee would do it. Yes I very much second that digging usually will cause the great B-500. Rita Jean

Owning a basenji requires a good sense of humor and a large dose of patience and a willingness to do some creative thinking to convince the basenjis what you want is really the same thing as what they want. So true, never a dull moment with these dogs

Yes I agree Pat, Fort Funston could get very crowded and dangerous for smaller dogs as packs of bigger dogs playing could cause injury. My 2 Basenjis were very good and stayed pretty close to me and got used to the crowds. The only problem I had there was with this lady who had an older Tri color female Basenji. It would bite my blk/wht, Nika who was 1-1/2 on the butt. A few times of that and I stayed way away from her. The problem is Nika was a very playful girl and never did anything like that. A few times of getting nipped on the butt started her doing it to other dogs and Basenjis. A Basenji would want to play and Nika would chase and give a nip and the the other dog would get mad and a fight would occur. Nobody would ever get hurt thankfully. It was rare that it would happen as I took them there for 9 years, mostly on the weekend without problem. We had a lot of fun and people loved the Basenjis! Ringo, the red/wht was a very entertaining clown when we'd go down to the beach.
