Hello People !!!

Member Introductions
  • My name is Kathy and I live in Pa with Mabel. Mabs is 7yrs. old. I adopted her 14 months ago. My life will never be the same. We are members of BRAT. I am looking forward to talking to other Basenji owners. My co-workers are probably tired of listening to me talk about clown girl, as I lovingly call her.

    Take Care,

    Kathy and Mabs

  • Hi Kathy! Welcome to Basenji Forums!

If you have any photos of Mabs it would be great if you can post them in the Show Off Your Dog thread. Please also browse through the introductions of other new members and say hi.

Let us know if you need help posting your photos or have any other questions about getting around these forums.

  • Hello Kathy and Mabs, fellow PA basenji owner! :) Stormie, Nikki and I are from the central PA area. Always nice to "bump into" another "b-servant" from the Keystone state!

Aggression is an all encompassing term. As pointed out above, there is quite a range! It is not unusual for Basenjis to be dog aggressive. Mine is, and I just avoid other dogs because I know his intentions are not good. Some are same sex aggressive and fine with members of the opposite sex, and some may just be making a statement when they are leashed. If you describe what you are seeing more specifically I am sure lots of people will have common experiences and possible training fixes to share. I would love to see some pictures of Tucker, and welcome to the forum!

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

Welcome and kudos to you for helping with rescues! It sounds like Kowboy was a great introuction to the breed. I'm sorry for your loss of him and Indy. this is a great place to share and keep memories alive. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy relocation back to your family in CA!
