Well, on Saturday, Hippo (Quercus Taji What In-Carnation?) won his first point! He managed to hold it all together a show fairly well! And as usual he dealt with the whole show atmosphere incredibly well, particularly since we haven't gotten him out all that much.
I LOVE this dog ;)

Thanks :) Ethan actually named him Hippo because he was by far the biggest pup in the litter of four. His "show" name is Carl…because Hippo is, well, a little undignified for a show dog ;) His crib name just stuck! So we often call him HippoCarl But his registered name is a play on words, and comes from his co-breeder because the litter is a line breeding on a dog that is dead...so reincarnation....and there you go ;)

Congrats Andrea! Can't wait to see Hippo again. Are you going to Monroe next month?

No, Kelli, we aren't :( I should have…it is so close. I think I will enter him in at least one day at Lima. We are going to Chicago for the specialty only...and then maybe one day at Marion. We don't have a lot of extra money right now for shows, or a lot of extra time...sooo....it might take a long time to finish him....but doesn't really matter, we are in no hurry.

No problem Andrea, I am in the same boat too. lol Roxie is 3 and I'm just starting to get her going again, we've done so little. It will be slow going, and I may not even do Monroe either. Not only is money tight, but I can't really get weekends off work, so I have to hope our ring time is fairly early or I can come in a little late. So far it's been working. I've had to stay very close to home, but I did finally venture off to Cincy for a day this year. Only because I was supposed to show another dog though, whose entries never made it. Go figure. lol

Cool, I'm going to Chicago. I'll be taking lots of pictures since I won't have a puppy with me. I think it's going to be a little smaller this year than last, which is unfortunate.
Congrats to you and Hippo!

So when is her first show? ;)I know, she just SCREAMS for joy every time she rides in the car, because she loves road trips so much. LOL.
Since she's not ready to have people handle her on the table yet, I'm waiting for the WI specialty at the end of July. I've been told the judge is pretty slow and gentle so I hope that it will be a good first experience. Rather than take her to Chicago, that next weekend I'm going to take her on a road trip to hang out with her breeder at a coursing event and we're going to have random people feed her treats on the table.

Ha, ha, ha…so it actually sounds like you'll have a little vacation. :D:D

Sounds like a good plan to get her used to traveling and to being handled on the table. Have fun in Chicago!

Holy Cow! You aren't kidding it is going to be smaller…I just got my judging schedule! There are less Basenjis entered than some regular local shows. I don't think it is even going to majors!

For at least the breeders I know locally the timing is bad for puppies. Many of the litters are still too young….including Zoni who will be three days shy of six months. I guess it will be a short day. :(
