The contract doesn't say anything about having to give her back. I have contacted the breeder tho, to give her the option if she wants, but she didn't return both of my voicemails yet this week.
I filled out the form for BRAT also. I'm just trying to get the best chance possible for her by putting up multiple ads or whatnot.

I am in the process of searching for a small adult female Basenji. I have already filled out an application with Brat and am waiting to hear when they will schedule my home visit.
However, I am keeping an open mind on getting a puppy. I would like to ask you some questions : Do you have papers for her?
Do you know if her parents were on the larger side or smaller size?
During the day when you are gone, do you keep her in a crate?
How is she coming along in housetraining?
Any information that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.Just to let you know, I have been walking 3 dogs once to twice a week for the last several months. Two of the girls are Basenjis. I adore them and can't wait to have my own girl someday. :)

I do not have her papers. The breeder gave me the AKC numbers of both parents if I wanted to register in the future, but it didn't seem important at the time.
Both of the parents were on the smaller side, as is Mia - she was 11 lbs at last vet visit a few weeks ago, but she SEEMS to have hit a growth spurt recently.
She didn't really like crates at all, so I set up a decent size exercise pen for her, loaded with chew toys. This worked well until she learned to climb after a few days, so now it's covered up =) She sleeps in bed with me at night to limit the crate time, and she curls up in a ball behind my knees.
Housetraining is kind of rough. She has adjusted to my work schedule, and as long as I take her out at pretty much the same times every day, there are no accidents. But getting her to actually TELL me when she has to go out is the tough part. I've recently started trying to use wind chimes, but she likes hitting it all the time like a toy, so it's a work in progress.
I've looked up her parents also and it doesn't appear that they were ever Fanconi tested, so I've ordered the swab test to get her tested. Wouldn't be right to pass her along without that knowledge.

Seems like your doing all the right things…but she is intact yes?
You need to make sure she doesn't end up in a breeding facility.ie, puppymill. -

That is super that you are going to get the DNA test done….. Kudos to you.... And unless you turn her over the BRAT, you might want to consider drawing up a contract that states that she must be spayed by 6 months.... so that anyone interested knows that you will not place her with anyone considering breeding...
And if you have the registration from the breeder you should just go ahead and get her registered. You should have received an AKC litter registration paper with her that you would fill in a name, you as owner and signed off by the breeder.

Kudo's to you Kono for getting the DNA swab test done. This is a wonderful and responsible thing you are doing for the Your Dog, the Breed, and the owner you will entrust your precious puppy to in the future. Your puppy is very very cute. There is another thread by a girl named Cathrine who is looking for a puppy and more likely a few others. There are very good people on this board and I am sure they will do all they can to help you.

She is positively, absolutely adorable. Have you had her in the car with you?
If so, what was the longest period of time.I would like to get some feedback. How many have gotten their Basenji as a puppy vs one that is one year or older? How many have gone through a rescue for their Basenji?

Lisatest, I have opened another thread regarding your last set of questions.
Lisa are you concerned that the puppy would not travel well? If you are going to have to drive a great distance, you should prepare to stop frequently because this is a very young puppy. Possibly at least once an hour. Also Miranda and I would strongly suggest using a crate when traveling. I have done this with Roo since he was little and he has an extra crate we bought that lives in the car. It is seatbelted in to keep it from moving about. He knows as soon as he gets in the car the crate is where he belongs.
