  • To Kiroja tell all of his cousin's he says hello!:) It would be great to get together some time. I am going to start some obedience classes with Simba next month. I would love to do lure coursing with him but i have no idea where to begin. If you have any info that could help i would greatly apprecitate it. And all your B's are beautiful!

  • Welcome to the forum!

  • Welcome from across our big pond.

  • Simba, we are having a lure coursing trial April 11 & 12 in Manchester. If you would like the info packet, you can go to my website and email me, I will forward you the flyer. They have practice on Saturday afternoon after the trial, if you would like to give it a try with Simba. This will probably be the closest lure event for you, unless a couple in Indiana might be slightly closer? Don't worry though, they will have another trial again in September if you can't come check this one out. The best thing to do is come and watch and ask around. It's not really one of those things you can study up or practice much at home. lol

I am planning on going, but still have to figure things out at work. Events are always up in the air for me. lol Most likely I will go and try to leave asap and get back to work in the afternoon. Especially Saturday, at least Basenjis go first so I should be able to deal with work. I hope to stick around for a few minutes of practice depending on how things are moving along. I have some other kids of mine I am hoping will make it, so you won't be the only clueless one. :) Even if I won't be there for some reason, there are lots of nice people that will help show you the ropes so you and Simba can learn and give it a try. It's breathtaking watching the dogs fly across the field, and they sure do have the time of their life!

  • Hello & welcome from Canada. Nice to have you here

I have to go read your link, but having been called to the shelter to see a chow that was an overweigh pomeranian, a rottweiler that was a lovely hound dog (Rottie rescue in FL told me keep quiet, they knew it wasn't a rottie but had a good home so just get it. I expected a LITTLE Rottweiler looking... bahahaha, no.)... vets who thought our basenjis were so many other things, not much surprises me.

As mine age I try to keep a bit of weight on them because I know they may reach a stage when they just don't keep weight as the organs weaken.

It was actually the vet tech wasn't the most brilliant thing on the planet… needless to say I found another vet the next week and they think she might have some bulldog in her... what a mix. I believe that she definitely could have some bulldog in her judging by the way she lays around the house.

@cmd: Our 12yr old Ramsey is from one of Linda's Basenji's and a very sweet guy. Have you tried Hacker's Basenji's? Ann is an active and very responsible breeder and she's near Danville. I can't say enough good things about her. We've had 2 of her dogs and both have had great temperaments. She's friends with a lot of other breeders in the area as well. If she doesn't have any available you could also try Select Basenji's near Dayton. I think she was co-breeding last year. We have a Select and she's a great little dog – a ball of energy though! I too was looking for a Basenji last year at this time. We lost our 14 yr old also year to date and felt a puppy would help everyone move on. Sort of became a mission. Puppies can be hard to come by this late, but we did find several. Nope, Tracy's breeding didn't take this year…but I think she is planning one for spring :)

I'm sorry for the loss of your dear Basenjis. Losing a pet is so difficult. I hope this site helps you through the transition. Welcome.
