    This is why I take my B's collar off when he's inside. I'm too afraid that he'll try to do this.

    I'm glad Roo is ok though. Hopefully he recovers just fine.

    I'm sorry, I know Roo could've gotten very sick, but I found mysellf literally "LOL" during this part:

    Glad Roo is OK! we have had things come back up several days afterh ingestion, though the dog had been eating and eliminating just fine. they have an amazing system!

    OMG…I'm literally LOL about the warranty thing too. Please tell me you WILL share this story with the manufacturer and inquire about the warrant. I'd love to hear their response.

    I once sent a large mailing envelope full of destroyed Lupine collars back to them. I also included a picture of the dog and a letter from her. I soon received an envelope full of replacement collars. Their customer service is great.

    how weird. Nemo tried to eat off his martingale collar today. He only wears it when his leash is on. Luckily it is still usable.

    We strongly suspect that the Vet or Vet Tech loosened his collar when they took it off before his Neuter. When the Vet Tech put his collar back on him, they neglected to check it for proper fit and we never thought about the possiblity that hit had been loosed, so we did not bother checking the fit.

    We bought Roo a new Red Martingale Collar the other day and I made sure it properly adjusted. I can just get about 2 fingers inside it. It does not hang down where the leash connects so we do not see anyway he can get any part of the collar in his mouth or lower Jaw. We have been watching him the last few days and we now believe it is a non-issue.

    What we did learn is that when we do take him to the Vet, we need to make sure his collar is properly adjusted when we pick him up. I am sure we would be much safer taking his collar off when we are home, but from what I see if the Martingale Collar is adjusted properly it's no longer a problem or concern.

    So we will chalk this experience up to owner error. Most likely it was mine for overlooking and not checking the collar after we picked Roo up from the Vet.

    @melduff I for one think this is FANTASTIC news! You guys are so lucky! You have a one of kind super dog with the papers to prove it. Walks around the neighborhood and trips to the dog park are going to be very much fun... Friendly neighbor: Oh, she's so cute! What kind of dog is she? You: Thanks you so much.     Last I heard, the Breed Club secretaries had more people waiting or wanting pups than were available . You could get on a list for a Basenji next winter but I very much doubt you will find one still unsold. Go to the website of the BCGB, or the Northern Basenji Society as you are in the North and you will find email addresses of the secretaries. They will put you in touch with breeders who may be planning a litter for puppies to become ready to leave the nest in about a year's time. Its a long wait I know, but you have most probably missed the boat for now. You are welcome to post me privately. Good luck!

    @weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

    I used to say my dog was aggressive until I read this thread… Now I say it is more of a defensive mechanism for Buddi. Buddi doesn't like anyone or anything to approach him. He wants to smell and get to know them or it first. If someone new comes into the house I tell them not to acknowledge Buddi at first and then once he has finished getting to know them he will walk away. After that he is fine. But if someone walks in and puts their hand towards him he instantly turns into a very loud and shows aggressive behavior like he is going to attack. The theory has worked very well to date. With dogs it is a little different. He also doesnt like small dogs. The ones close to his size or larger we have never had a problem. Should I handle the situations in a different manner? Also he doesnt go to a doggie spa or day care so we make sure to go to the park and keep him socialized with dogs there and ones that he knows. We also have friends with young kids and he loves them. Has never growled or snipped at them. He LOVES to play!!!!

    OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
