Sleeping In Bed?

Basenji Talk
  • All the crtters sleep in our bed… and hubby still doesn't like it! Rocky would become the immovable object and gain 50#'s the minute he feel asleep. he was also a blanket thief… we'd wake up freezing only to find all the blankets curled around him. Lucky pup.

Since he's been gone, our new pup, Titus Pullo (1/2 shepard, rest lab with a smidge of something we can't quite put our finger on) sleeps with us. He, truly, is 50#'s of immovable sleeping dog.

  • I think having a b sleep with you, helps in the bonding process.

  • My Mr Eko will be 10 weeks tomorrow. He is a very good puppy too, as he sleeps in his own bed in our bedroom, and has never attepmted to get onto the bed (yet).
ALthough we would love to have him in bed, we have decided to keep it as it is (as long as it lasts, i should say instead).
He is also very quiet when crated (although i still have to get over my own distress for restricting him while we are at work).
But he does love to chew!!!

Kembe always slept in our bed up until these last 2 years of her life. She was a bed and blanket hog - legs stretched out and took over the bed. I put her doggie bed in our room right next to our bed in her latter years - I was afraid of her falling or jumping off the bed and getting hurt.

Alex, my daughter just got a Samoyed puppy. We are not allowing him loose with Cara yet, but she does crazy play with him in his crate and he literally rocks it side to side playing back. Your guys made me laugh. I love the wilds. (Unfortunately Cara wants to play around 1 am!)

They are pretty tough beds, Kai does the whole "nesting thing" with it and it's held up just fine, the material is strong :)

Having your Basenjis get used to crates by riding does help…in the long run.. the start besides things like feeding them in the crate... to associate the crate with fun times.... and when you are at an event... the crate becomes as safe haven... and a place to crash... at our lure trial in March... Kobey was there.. I always have crates in my van... and with so much activity going on... Kobey was very happy to be in the crate and taking a nap....

@Lenora: He sounds pretty typical basenji to me Cheryl. They want to be where you, and make themselves completely comfortable on you. Abbey used to be a terrible mouther when she was little (she's 3 now) and I taught her No Bite. Kiss. When she'd start to mouth at my hand or whatever, I'd say No Bite, Kiss, and she would give me a little lick instead. I too use the No Bite, Kisses and he is getting there. If he gets too rough, I just pull away and ignore him, it doesn't take long before he will reach over and give a gentle kiss. I am having so much fun with him. He is the most loving dog I have ever owned and we are learning lots from each other. Yesterday he "saved" me from the UPS truck! He saw it pull up outside on the curb and he set off with a series of barks that hit a pitch that hurt! Of course once he saw the man get out, he was all wiggles and wanting to play with him. :)

All three pups sleep in bed with us. We bought two double beds and stuck them togeather so we could all fit. It's still crowded. My next dog IS going to sleep in a crate!
