  • @moetmum:

I love her!! My first basenji was a splithead too, I fell in love with him when I first saw him. I hope we get to see a lot more of her.

Pardon my ignorance but can you only have two dogs because you live in a town or is it the state?

Okay, someone please tell me what that means "splithead." It is the symmetrical markings?

It means that the white splits her head in half down the center…from her nose to the back of her head where the white joins the collar. :D

  • @renaultf1:

Congrats Clay!!! She's super cute! :D:D Hope the flight on Friday works out and please post pics when you bring her home!

What is the background on the name Zoni? Just curious.

Zoni is the name of my favorite beach on Culebra, Puerto Rico, not far from my friend's house that I stay at. We thought it was a cute name for a dog too. :D

Hope your puppy pick-up goes well too on Friday.

The local municipalities generally determine the number of pets that are acceptable within their juristiction, not the state. My experience it is usually up to 2 dogs and/or two cats or some combination thereof. Often rural areas or towns are more likely to allow more. A couple I knew were suckers for stray animals and at one time they had about 6 dogs and 7 cats. It was a challenge for them to find a place to live and they had to move out to the country. Althought that is an extreme example. I'd probably have about 3-4 dogs if I could, but that isn't going to happen unless I move.

I live somewhat in the country in Maine and after you posted about only being able to have 2 dogs, I decided to call my town office. The first 2 people I talked to laughed…like the question was ridiculous. Then I called the code officer. He didn't know the answer but thought it was a great question and needed to call me back after he looked into it. For my town, I can have 5. Any more than 5 and I have to apply for a kennel application.

FWIW, there was a huge problem with a puppy mill in a town about 45 minutes from me. A responsible basenji breeder (BCOA member and not a BYB) who had 7 b's as pets (hasn't bred in a couple years) was put thru the wringer by ugly neighbors because the town passed a new ordinance (after the puppy mill was broken up) limiting the number of pet dogs. This b owner had the dogs long before the puppy mill ever came to light. After a huge fight with the town, she has since been grandfathered, but needs to register as a kennel if she decides to breed another litter.

Not as often as he used to, but he still does it once in a big while, and then he tries to dive under the couch like he used to, but instead he just slams into it because he is too big! haha

Great pictures - Cody looks like he was really enjoying the snow! But the last picture says it all - "okay, that was fun but now I'm cold and tired and leave me alone" One of mine would probably play in the snow; the other wouldn't put one single foot in it!

@hdolbow: he wasnt too happy with me, or her, at first… now they play... he can jump on the bed or couch to get away if he wants time to himself...he wont lay next to her yet shes starting to mimic him.. if hes laying in the sun on the couch, she'll lay on the floor with the sun shining in the window.. :) i think he would like her more if she wasnt into biting everything lol And until she looses those teeth… there will be lots of times he is not happy with her... but the one nice thing about having an adult B in the house is that he will teach her "biting" manners much better then we humans ever can...

I held all three and don't remember any of them squirming. So you should be good! I'll definitely have to come up there now. I'm excited! :)
