Hi,
You have wonderful site like
https://www.champdogs.co.uk/breeds/basenji
You could start looking there.

Welcome, Sarah. Hopefully you will find a good responsible breeder in your area, but a healthy, well bred pup is worth a bit of a drive!
Also, have you considered a young adult rescue? There are usually a number of nice, 2-5 year old dogs on BRAT, or Texas Basenji Rescue. If this is your first basenji, I personally recommend starting with an adult! Basenji puppies are really cute…they need to be to keep you from murdering them! A young adult is still very playful, much easier to train, and with life spans of 14-18 years, 2 or 3 is still really young. I won't take a basenji under 2, but I have strong survival instincts.
Good luck on your hunt!

If you want a puppy (and not a rescue) then please visit www.basenji.org and go to breeder referrals for TX… Everyone has their own ideas of the perfect pup... some are adults (or young adults) or a baby puppy.... regardless please go to a responsible breeder if you are considering a puppy. There are a number of responsible breeders in your area...
We rescued both our basenjis and it was a great way to go for us. BRAT basenjirescue.org has a tri boy featured now. And there are frequently basenjis in shelters listed on Petfinder, including a lot in Texas (we found our boy in an El Paso shelter).

Thanks for all the help! I have considered a rescue but I am a little hesitant to because I don't know how they were raised before us, and what their problems were that caused them to be given up. I know a puppy will be a lot of work and that B's are a handfull. Lots to think about. Thanks again.

OOps, sorry for the double posts…don't know how that happened.
After posting here I recieved a list of Texas breeders from another group. I pasted it in. So we are still searching but we are narrowing it down. I'll keep you posted. Also look at

What a cute boy.
I know they have a lot of b's who are from byb's who need homes.
Texas is one of those states that let folks sell dogs and yes our b's from the back of pickup trucks at swap meets.
Sigh.
Heartbreaking!

While Brenda has judged the Sweepstakes at the National Specialty, she is not a licenced judge. She is a breeder and handler…....
As with all puppy searches, please remember to do your homework and make sure health testing has been done....
He's already been adopted. Pout for me, yay for him!
Yes, if you want a rescue basenji you really need to be on top of it every day. They go fast, and unfortunately not always to educated homes. The effort is well worth it, though, both in getting a wonderful pup (who may need to work through some issues so you can both be reminded he's wonderful) and in the satisfaction of giving a basenji who's been misunderstood a wonerful forever home. Hang in there. Your pup will find you.
