Two of six

  • This is Max (Timar's Glittering Image) and Cleo (Akuaba's Sandalwood) , both are 5/8 African. Max is from Avongara Imba Tena (Fido)[/Bhttp://www.basenji.org/african/ImbaTena.htm[/URL]
and Cleo from Avongara Sineri (Woody).
Max is a big dog, 19.5 inches at the shoulder and 36 lbs. Cleo is a saddle, a dark marking across the top of her back, not to breed standard for a brindle. Check out the Avongara link. Both Fido and Woody are from Avongara M'Bliki & Diagba pairing

  • They are both beautiful. Who is their breeder?

  • @youngandtired:

Cleo may not be standard to breed but she is really interesting looking, and Max is also beautiful and you are right he is a big dog. I have one B and she is my baby as well, my only son is in the Marines. So my hubby talked me into getting a house dog. I am so glad I did, b/c she is my baby girl, and we both love her sooooo much, she has brought us so much joy, and we have spoiled her rotten. Her name is Sahara and her picture is on the Show Off section. Hope to see more pics soon, and welcome to the forum.:D

Thanks for the welcome and we just love our Basneji's as well. Our children are grown up so these Basenji's are our children, we spoil them rotten. We even have a sign on our door that states, "spoiled rotten dogs live here".;)

I'm sure many long time Basenji people will tell you it won't be long till you consider another dog to go along with that little girl Basenji! They do so well with another, it's almost hard for me to imagine having just one…..like potato chips.:)

I will have to get caught up with all these pictures, and stories.......this is a great forum for Basenji owners....and we are special, cause our dogs are "special'!!!!

Max was bred by Jean Martin..Timar Basenji's and Cleo by Susan Coe..Akuaba Basenji's. We have four other's that are from Kisa kennels, my wife travels and shows dogs with Kim Byrd up and down the east coast. Susan has since moved to the land down under.

  • Lovely dogs, from great breeders! Thanks for sharing these pics!

I've learned so much since we've had our B's, it's a great group of unique owners/breeders and very unique dogs. I am thankful to both of those Ladies for setting my wife and I on the Basenji path.

  • They are absolutely beautiful. I love the "saddle" marking. I think they are perfect!

I love the Africans, they're different to be sure. They certainly aren't for everyone, very independent.

Nice looking dog! I'm tempted to get another too once Safi is a bit older.

They always make me smile. I'll have to see if I can get a decent print to frame.

@Duke: Yes - Love your avator pic - very clever! :D I'm a little confused, because you have 6, but how many males & females in each pack? Just curious - Do they get along most of the time? Is there is an established alpha male/female in each pack? What an orchestra you have to lead. Bravo! :) The africans are just different IMO, if by size if nothing else, so that's where it starts. Max and Cleo and Penny….each about two years apart, Max being the oldest. Cleo runs the show with those two and all of the Dogs when they're all together. The second pack is run by Raven, with Willy and Jasper as her boy toys. We got Raven when she was 9 months, and Cleo never really accepted her, and the size difference is a factor…..they got into too many fights. Now Raven has her own pack, but seems to understand Cleo is still in charge of the whole group. All of the dogs are either spayed or neutered except Willy and Jasper.....that helps! Willy and Jasper both show so they have to remain in tact;) , so some testosterone levels may be a problem down the line and we may have to seperate them at times. It's too early to tell which one will be the alpha male in Ravens pack, right now I'd almost say Jasper....he's pretty pushy.:)
