@tanza said in Help with getting started.: @debradownsouth and @mshilo - Please take your "private war" private.... both of you have hijacked this thread and I am sure that the person that started it has left never to return, so we all missed an opportunity to educate a possible new Basenji person Scroll up and read... this person attacks everyone, nonstop. Sadly the person wanted easy and when Mshilo told him to join a board for buying dogs, off he went. Do I need to ignore him? Not when he spouts abuse against me or gives bad info. But I'll try. Note that whether I do or don't, he attacks others because he NEEDS attention. So be it.

When we were showing, baths were done the night before we left for each show. Now, they get two a year, once when the coats are shedding and the other right before cold weather is going to start. Of course, the muddy situations sometimes occur and that throws in another one or two a year. But they are such clean dogs, they pretty much take care of it themselves. But when we had pups did bathe more frequently until each accepted it as a matter of course.

last fall was my first time with intact males and an in season girl. i'd plugged it in when z first started maybe/possibly coming in. i had no idea if it worked. until it expired. oh my! the whining all night long. i looked at the calendar, sure enough, no more DAP. there was still liquid in the container, so i thought it was still working - nope. so, replace on schedule.

It's all good. If it weren't for the constant incontinance, I'd wonder about him having Fanconi too. It still amazes me how "normal" they can act while being so sick!

The Basenjis that I have, have Champions and Dual Champions in the first 5 generations both Sire and Dam, plus the dog/bitch itself is a Conformation Champion, Duel Champions (Field and show ring) along with Obedience….. that doesn't mean that I think they should or need to be bred... and that said, were not...
