@debradownsouth Thank you for the kind words but I have to admit... I take young adults for my own convenience. I simply don't have time, stamina or energy to deal with the pups as adorable as they are. Having a puppy is like having a baby or too! Did I mention I was not into children and babies or can you guess?lol. I love the retirees. they are already used to crates (although Ollie is now somewhat recalcitrant about getting into hers because she would rather hang out with her now "Mom", lol!! They travel well. They are usually somewhat used to people. Ollie is not used to playing by herself and is just getting used to "big" breeds. She doesn't get the commands "sit, down or stay" yet but we are working on it. She is the champ of the "heel" command however!!

I live right across the bridge from San Francisco, California, USA. I have a darling basenji girl named Victoria that Karen Jones of Basenjirescue.com rehomed to me. Karen went to great lengths to match me with a girl that is just perfect for me and my situation. I just spoke with her today, and she has 85 basenjis to re-home. She placed 34 last year. What a big job! I am in love with basenjis, and will make sure I always have one. I've had other basenjis in the past, but my darling Victoria is not an alpha dog, so she does not run me ragged on a daily basis. She has her tricks though, and has separation anxiety when I leave for an hour or 2. She's 1/4 African Stock, so is also a bit more skiddish than others. I hope to meet other people who have basenjis, and to also enjoy reading all the "basenji stories" as well as the myriad of health tips and tricks. Thank you. Leigh

Welcome! This is a great place for sharing the basenji love, asking questions and getting feedback.
Good for you and for Victoria that you were able to find one another. Karen is an angel on earth, no doubt about it.

Yes she is! Does the "By the Bay" part of your name refer to San Francisco Bay? Is that where you live? I live right on the Bay. I would love to meet someone around here who owns a basenji.

Sorry, no, I'm in San Diego. But if you ever head South…:D
It looks like there's a pretty active club up in your neck of the woods. Maybe they have meetups you could join?
Not so much here, that I know of, though a lovely woman I met through Karen has 3 b's in a community near here. We have 2 basenji mixes in our neighborhood that we've discovered (your dog will find those for you if you take her to a dog park or a popular walking area).
Congrats again - can't remember if your post said this was your first B, but aren't they just amazing?
