Anyone know this breeder?

  • Have any of you ever heard of a breeder named Cindy Clausen, in the PNW?

  • @JazzysMom:

Have any of you ever heard of a breeder named Cindy Clausen, in the PNW?

Not a BCOA member… and I have not heard the name before

  • Okay,

There's a woman in my area selling her 3 yo boy due to a change in family status, and the breeder listed on the paperwork is Cindy Clausen. The owner doesn't have a lot more info – nor do I as I only spoke briefly with her on the phone -- because the dog was purchased at a {dirty little} farm/pet supply place in a nearby town.
Just hoping someone knew of the breeder......

  • Makes me curious… but this says she is/was in KS and we are in WA. Not that it couldn't be the same lady.....

I'm going to keep digging here; thanks.

  • I don't know if it is the same lady…

I just googled: Cindy Claesen basenji: no hits
    and then: Cindy Claesen puppies..

  • The dog came from Farmland, a pet store that sells companion animals.
    SIGH!
I do believe this is the KS basenji.
I called as this b is for sale in the local paper.
They want to "recoop" some of the $$ they spent to get him.
So, I left my phone number, BRAT info and asked them please to give my contact info to the folks they sell the basenji to..
    Sigh.

  • Yup, sound to me the pup came from a puppymiller in KS…. I would guess the same person.. and the pet store got the pup/pups they sell from this person...

  • ARGH!!! I really HATE this store. It is very small, dirty, over-crowded inside and out with all kinds of stuff – from farm supplies to picnic tables. I went inside once to buy some crickets for a frog we had, and was claustrophobic as soon as I went in. They have a sign outside that always has a list of puppies available, always a multitude of breeds.
When the woman told me she got the dog there 3 yrs ago, my heart sank.

Man, I hope the right person calls her about this dog. From her description, he sounds like a really great pet.

  • I am hoping they will decide to turn him over to BRAT.
Fingers crossed, that will be what happens.
I also wish we could get that place shut down.
I know the Humane society is over there a lot!

    Me too, on both counts.

I've been wracking my brain - -how can I scare up $400 to buy him and turn him over, but….. there's just no way.

I know many of you see and deal with such things regularly, esp. those involved in rescue, but this is the first time I've had one so close and it is B-U-G-G-I-N-G
me that I can't help this dog find a great forever home.:(

  • I agree, with luck they will turn the B over to rescue…..

I would also go crazy when I would know of such a case! Hope the owner will do the right thing!

I'm so happy that it isn't allowed in the Netherlands to sell puppies in petstores.. (not that there aren't puppymills… )

Also with any luck, someone that is responsible will buy this guy… and at least he is neutered... so that is a good thing... and seems like they are letting him go due to circumstances.. not because of behavior issues... of course the fact that they would rather "recoop" money is a poor excuse to not just turn over to rescue...

  • I'll donate to the cause. $50 from me. Anyone else?

  • We just had a friend die and instead of flowers, they requested that a donation be made to a cause relating to animals. So…I'll donate $50 also.

    Pat

  • I guess this means we only need $300 more to get this dog out of hock.

After seeing the Oprah show, it's REALLY hard for me to not go out there and start adopting every dog I see. However, I simply don't have the resources at this time but rest assured, when I DO have the resources I'll have a backyard full of B's! I have $50 bucks, though, so I'll happily donate to the cause of getting this dog into BRAT's hands.

  • I'll donate $50 also!

  • Well, don't forget me!! I can kick in $50. So that is $150…but by the time we trickle up to $400, he may be gone....or maybe, just maybe she will have called Sharron back and turned him over!! {fingers and toes all crossed!}

  • we're up to $200 now, right? I think jazzys mom and i posted simultaneously…

@Rob5098 I don't in your area. Like Pat suggested, you can go here: https://www.basenji.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=111&Itemid=94 Check NY and NJ and any other state close enough for a drive.

@Nemo: Here's the link. http://www.basenji.org/learn/ Go to "screening breeders" at the top. That is a great list…and great explanations of why those questions are important.

Yes, Arlene, you do need at some point to take a stand and trust what you see and what you like… Breeding comes down to that in the end.... And with a bitch that is only 1 1/2 yrs looking down from the top is not a very good judge... IMO... reason?... They are not mature yet... and they shouldn't be.... their ribs have not even "sprung" at this age.. again IMO.... I would be hard pushed to say a dog is "wider" in the front then the rear at this age by just looking down on them.... again IMO.... Here is a link to 3 pictures of Kobey, 6wks, 3 months and 5 1/2 months... everything I saw on this pup at 6 wks that I liked (and that is a bit early then the 8 wks usually used for evaluating pups) I still see... but there are differences while growing... Now granted this pup is one of the few that has yet to really fall apart with a growing spurt... And also the faults that I saw at 6wks are still there too..... www.tanzabasenjis.net/kobeygrowing.html

@khanis: Not polished ??? Sorry, but that is one of the silliest things that I have heard in ages. **I'm sorry; to what is this referring? I have seen dogs that are uglier than sin.. in the show ring no less! People that can't breed a decent looking domestic basenji aren't going to be able to breed a decent looking African basenji! **Uglier than sin? Really? I really prefer health and temperament and function as breeding goals. IMHO. How is that for a bunch of African beauties??? **Your dogs are quite lovely. So are my two Jasiri-Sukari B's. But neither would win in a show. We think they're beautiful, too. And they both have sweet temperaments. Lucky us. :) s.
