    Finally the 2007 year end AKC agility stats have been published and I'm so thrilled to brag that my brindlewonderkid, DIGITAL, finished up the year as the breed's #1 agility basenji. What's even more special is that he just turned 11, so his 2007 season was as a 10 year old. The last time he was #1 was in 2002 and he's been in the top 3 every year since. He's also our breed's only Dual Champion with master level agility titles. Truely a do-it-all dog. I'm so proud of my "old" man. I love him to pieces. He's my first competition dog and we've done and titled in: conformation, agility, coursing, rally, therapy work. We'll keep competing as long as he enjoys himself.

    My daughter shows in agility in the midwest but not with basenji's. I know how much work and training goes into agility . I know how much she does. I get reports on the "grandkids" after every show. She always tells me if there is a basenji there and how they did. She thinks it would be a great challenge to train a basenji in agility but then she would have to live with one and that thought she can't handle. No hounds in her vocabulary. Ha Ha! When I go to visit my daughter I make sure she is showing so I can go and watch. It is great fun She is showing both of hers in excellence . Kudos to you and your dog.

    i bet that when rogues adult teeth come in she will be able to do the egg test though. she has a very soft touch when she wants to.

    i walk the lab and isis at the same time one on hand and one on the other, the lab seem to have a major drive to sniff out anything and track blindly and of course isis will be doing the same, the b is easier to control cause she lighter but the m1 tank of the lab well.. we've came across little furry friends on our nitely walks i need to stay very focus on my surroundings, one thing the b does if theres someone walking behind us doesnt matter how far , she walk ahead stop and turn to look back, she'll keep doing this repeatedly like she warning me these something there,im sure its instinct on her end to,of course i confirm whats shes doing but yeah those b's dont miss a trick

    I have had that same situation with Ayo,only with him it's usually with large dogs. we only have one area at the park here, all together, small dogs and big dogs. When he goes in he always chooses one big dog , runs up to him and starts growling. Sometimes he stops very quickly, or the other dog growls back and it stops or it escalates , usually because the other dogs owner freaks out. He is fine around small dogs. And I am pretty sure that he is fine with most dogs, that if I leave them they will work it out, but I'm afraid to let it play out because bigger dogs can really hurt him, and also because usually the other owner freaks and intervenes making everything worse. Sooo, Ayo has started to get a bit of a rep.. The basenji rep!! I usually wait till only small dogs are in…

    I have been a bit of chicken about entering a competition. I think I am going to give one a try either this May or June. I am going to start in CPE because their level 1 should be a good place for me the novice handler and Rio my novice dog.

    But then I recommend that all be muzzled when running. I never used to.. but over the years of coursing have totally changed my mind. But not because dogs might be nasty… If you start out your dogs with a muzzle, they begin to associate the muzzle with coursing and know when that goes on they are going to "chase" the bunny. I would prefer that it was "required" for all hounds to run muzzled like it is for Oval/Straight line.
