Cooper is a rescue of unknown origin (found as a stray, in a shelter for their maximum time, then to an all-breed rescue group). His ears are somewhat offset at resting position and his tail was docked before he was found as a stray, but he otherwise looks and acts like a trindle basenji. We occasionally entertain the idea that he may be part rat terrier or something else of similar size and color, but he has to be at least 75% basenji.

I e-mailed Dr. Dodds a few years ago with Eddie's results (lab recommended no treatment) but she recommended a low dose of soloxine. My vet doesn't have a big ego about it and wrote me the perscription, I think Eddie's disposition evened out and his energy rose, weight dropped a bit too. I send results after every test and she has kept the same dose, never mentioned any fee. And from everything I have ever read, "low normal" results usually mean treatment for a basenji. Dr. Dodds gave me a full explanation of her reasoning, which I showed my vet.

Hugs to Isis… and hopefully the blood gases were done and that Dr. Gonto was able to help you and your Vet with the right protocol program for Isis.... And there is a Fanconi yahoo list for only people with affected dogs. It would really be good for you to join that list. If you seach the yahoo list for Basenjis and Fanconi you should be able to find it.

Stores also carry those bean bags that you can heat up (humans use them as heating pads). We got Lexi one at Petsmart recently. She LOVES it. You put it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it heats up the inside. We put it in her bed and she'll go circle on it and then plop down right in the middle. It's too cute!! You might want to try that- it's a nice alternative to having an electric heating pad.
