    I read this from Tanza and am considering it, although they recomend it (better than what I am feeding now?) they still say it's low in meat content.

    Mine have done really well on this food… and you can always add canned meat, like I said, I use the EVO 95% meat (Duck, Venison, Chicken & Turkey) if you are concerned about meat content.

    Evo is great. Chance is allergic to most foods. After trial and error, Evo is working out great.

    My pooch is allergic to aaaaaalll kinds of things like grains & poultry SO we feed Natural Balance Patato & Duck and Merricks Salmon Wilderness.

    I also use natural balance either duck and potator or fish and sweet potato. Also watch the treats you give them. sometimes it will list flax which can also cause a reaction in grain allergic dogs. Just an FYI.

    I bought a small bag of the Natural Balance Duck & Patato last night, to use as treats at first in small quantities.

    Of coarse he hates it, spits it out. I tried mixing it with his other food and he picks out his regular food. The other dog likes it no problem, but she's not the one who needs it!

    This dog I am going to rename to- "Difficult"

    He is such a pain in the butt compared to our girl- they are so different from each other. Yes we love both, but…

    Been slowing introducing he food and he seems to be accepting it, no redness on his underside or diarhea.

    I use blue buffalo.. both dogs transitioned well. Mia had some loose poo a few times, but not really "the squirts" :D

    i dont know what types of grains and stuff you're dogs are allergic to, but check it out and see if it might work!

    How about Solid Gold Barking At The Moon…you should also expect some diarrhea when switching foods. I add water to it so it's a little more tasty :)

    Why is wheat and grains bad for dogs, do they have a hard time digesting them. Sometimes Sahara loves to have some of my peanut butter on wheat toast, is that bad for her. She loves it, so how about it???

    The wheat and grains they use as fillers in dog food is not like the wheat you have in your bread… and little toast and PB will never hurt her...

    And yes they have a hard time digesting the fillers they put in dog food, because IMO, it of lesser quality and if just what it appears, a filler.. Dogs are meat eater... for the most part

    I tried to get to the bottom of it, but I didn't find much. I did find an article that said food prices in general may be rising due to El Niño, so that may be a factor.     When Taste of The Wild had the salmonella recall, due to a plant that makes it and many other dog food brands having salmonella contamination, I switched Kipawa to Acana kibble. He loves it. His coat had more shine with Taste of the Wild bison, but by adding Omega oils to his food, curry comb brushing him daily (very soft bristles), and of course petting him a lot, his coat is looking superb. :)

    @agilebasenji: To clarify, I'm not feeding my dogs differently because they are show/performance dogs; I'm feeding them differently because that is what works for the individual. Where I see feeding a dog differently because it is a performance/working dog (NOT a conformation/show dog) is where the dog is burning TONS of calories. Examples would be a working border collie/kepie or, perhaps, a greyhound that is being run many times a week (I don't know how they work things at the track), a working military/border patrol dog that is logging in miles of work daily, etc. My performance/show dogs are more weekend warriors by comparison. Training less than an hour everyday (not that I really train 7 days a week), hardly needs a special diet (IMHO). I will say I feed the basenjis more in the winter than the summer; they need more calories when it's cold. I also cook an egg on show/agility/coursing mornings, but that's because Digital is a picky boy and I need him to having something in his tummy when he's performing in agility/coursing. And it has just sort of carried over even though Miss Zest would never turn down food of any sort. Of course that's not too different from most weekends since I usually cook a big breakfast on Sat and Sun and everyone gets a bite of egg then. However, I will say I know of some people who do feed their current show dogs a better diet than the non-show dogs, which I find very sad. Well put, especially your last comment… I totally agree.... and pets/companions deserve the best we can feed them... no different then show/performace dogs...

    I have been feeding my dogs Diamond Brand Chicken and Rice small breed, according to that website it's not the greatest but not the worst. I might try the Orijen brand and see if my dogs like it, Cooper and missy will eat anything but Abby is more picky that's why I went with the diamond brand cuz she likes it and she will eat it! :)

    I went to two health food type pet stores yesterday and asked a bunch of questions about the different types of holistic dog foods and other foods that they had. I came away from both stores with several brochures and tons of food samples!! From one store I got a plastic grocery bag FULL of Timberwolf Organics and from the other store I got a bag full of EVO Innova samples. Enough to feed these guys for more than a week!! I had no idea that you could get samples from the stores!! The dogs seem to love both brands. We're taking it slow though so I can keep track of the reactions. They currently eat Nutro Max Ultra Puppy.
