People annoy me..

well, not all people. Just the stupid ones. :D
I got a call this morning from an acquaintance who lives in Idaho {she used to live here in WA, then moved away to California, then Georgia, and now Idaho. and although we were never close, she calls me all the time}.
Back in November, even though she is not a dog person, her husband brought home a puppy –I forget what kind; I want to say Foxhound.
This puppy was born in October, given away in November-- WAAAY too young!!This gal called at the time for advice on crate training, housebreaking, etc.
Today she calls and is so frustrated. Her puppy, which is now just 3 mos old, goes pee outside great, but even after being outside for as long as 15 minutes, comes in the house, runs upstairs and poops on the floor. Every day.
I asked, :) "Do you go outside w/her to make sure she's pooping?"
Answer, :mad: "No. It's very cold outside in the morning; I'm not going out there.":) "How can you know that she's pooping outside if you don't go?"
:mad: "I don't know, but it's like below 0 out there.":) "You need to watch and praise her when she goes outside so she'll know that's what you want her to do."
:mad: "I'm looking at the thermometer right now and it's showing -1".:) "Can you put a baby gate up to block her from the upstairs until she's trained?"
:mad: sigh. "I don't know".:) "Can you be upstairs when she runs up there so you can catch her in the act, tell her "no!" and put her outside?"
:mad: silence.:mad: "I told my husband I am giving her until March."
:) "'til March for what?"
:mad: "to be housetrained. If she's not, I'm getting rid of her.":) "Try to think of her like a child. Remember how hard it is to get a child to catch on to NOT go in their diaper? You have to teach them what it is , where to go, and it takes time. Puppies are the same way; they have developmental stages and learning processes too, and they have to learn things."
:mad: sigh. "Maybe I'll talk to dh about a gate. I'd better go. I'm really busy here."
:) "Okay. And go slap your dh for bringing home the puppy in the first place".Click.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. In Georgia they had a puppy for a while too. Her moron husband brought home a Shiba Inu to a wife that doesn't have time or patience for dogs. That one lasted about a month.
I am so very annoyed.

Sadly this goes on all over and the dogs in pounds and rescues are living proof. Someone does need Bslapped IMO.:D -
I know exactly how you feel. I have a friend who bought her second puppy a couple days ago. She gets them in the spur of the moment, with all the accessories, and is trying to get rid of it again. About a week is the time a puppy can stay with her.
This time, it was one of her friends that talked her into getting a dog, and she got one too. She also has to get rid of it. The two of them have about 5 hours a day at home: NOT enough for a puppy.

This reminds me of my feelings about that new Pedigree commerical. They show and adorable dog in a kennel run; some people come up to look at him, and he is wagging, and happy, and they turn and walk away, he looks sad and confused. The voice over says 'for every dog that is adopted from a shelter, there is one that isn't…help us help them' or some such wording. Of course it makes everyone feel sad and guilty that they can't adopt every dog, or that they purchased a well bred dog, or G-D forbid they bred a dog. But really, what the commerical should say is 'for every well educated, well prepared dog owner, there is one unprepared, uneducated impulse puppy buyer; there is one idiot that will turn their dog over to a shelter without putting in any effort to solving a minor problem; there is one person that will allow their dog to be bred without any planning, and dump mom and puppies at the shelter when it becomes too much work.'
Maybe we should be putting some of the blame and guilt on people who are filling the shelters, rather than those that choose not to adopt from shelters?

It may be venting but it is oh so true. Anyone who has taken a high school economics course knows that the reason there are puppy mills is because there is a demand for those puppies so the mills meet it with supply. The problem is that once they are passed that cute puppy stage or out of the "honeymoon" phase the owners who did little or no research and bought it because they had the money dump the dogs on shelters or rescue. Then responsible breeders who do education and take back their dogs are made to feel bad because of others impulse purchases.
If we can not change how people think about animals and approach making a commitment to their pets we will not change pet overpopulation. As long as there is someone willing to buy the cute puppy there will be cute puppies.

I hate that new Pedigree commerical as well! It makes me feel like they are criticizing those who purchase dogs vs. adoption, which just is not fair. I agree that they should be criticizing those individuals who mistreat their dogs or do not understand the responsibility of owning a pet so they place them into animal shelters. These pets stem from irresponsible breeders, irresponsible pet owners, BYBs, puppymills, etc. It makes me sick. There really ought to be guidelines of some sort implemented through the state to even get a pet in the first place!
People are very irresponsible when it comes to adopting pets. I think a lot of individuals don't think of the true committment getting a dog (or any pet for that matter) takes. That is 15-18 years of your life that you will be responsible for another living thing. Although different from children in many ways, a puppy will need to rely on you just as a child would throughout the entirety of its life.
This girl clearly does not understand what being a pet parent is about. Her DH is an idiot for getting her a puppy when it seems clear that she does not want to put in any sort of effort to properly train/raise it.

1. I have neighbors like JazzsMom's friend. For the past couple of years these people have bought a new puppy for their granddaughter every few months (disposing of the previous puppy each time). The granddaughter lives in an apartment so the puppy stays with the grandparents. But they aren't really dog people - there's virtually no shade in the yard in the summer except for the little dog house, and the puppy is left out in the frigid cold mornings even when it's below 0F/-18C for a long time to go potty (and nearly all the puppies have been short hair types). Except for running around in the yard the puppy gets no walks or training. It's really pathetic. :(
2. That commercial makes me want to run out and adopt that dog – except I've already got EL D and he's a handful. As much as I'd like to get a playmate (preferably basenji :)) for EL D, I can't afford it and I live alone so no one to help. I'd really feel irresponsible then. Someday when I win the lottery ... :rolleyes:

I have a freind who really hates dogs barking, and went out and got one. She has severe OCD on top of it all. She is completely obsessive about the dogs behaviors and complains about it EVERYDAY.
One minute she loves on the dog and the next she talks about how she can't wait to give it away. She also complains about why she even got a dog. I don't know why and I can't take it anymore, just be done with it. It has become an obsession with her. Not a Good one but a bad one.
By the way when she complains about the dog, it's usually her fault because she won't listen to anyone (myself included) when it comes to dogs she knows nothing. But she is stubborn! Again, I can't take it anymore…....I feel better!o.k. I feel better
