Debra 🙂 thank you for positive thoughts 🙂
And yes here in canada all we get are federal loans and provincial loans , it still only covered the cost of my tuition which is something
And we did sell the car to help with a few things , and here in canada people either go back to there country or apply from within the country but they must always have a valid status , visitor visa , work permit , student etc .. 🙂 if we're lucky by September we will have some news from Canada immigration 🙂 that he is eligible for a open work permit 🙂
My dad is doing better now , he went in for a check up with the specialist and yes the tumor was cancerous
so he will have to go back in 3 months again to get checked out , and etc so keep track of things 🙂
I can't wait to finish school and get a job - and even start back again with horses -ha probably end up taking a a equine sciences diploma program online afterwards ,
And yes I worked at the track some things they do are horrible , others are great and take amazing care of them it's a hit and miss !
I need support!

Hi Jodie…
Congratulations on quitting. It will be the best thing that you ever did...for yourself and your loved ones! I think it is fantastic that you are tackling it. It will be hard, but soooo worth it. I've never been a smoker, but my mother was and died of lung cancer. My brother quit cold turkey this time last year and just marked his one year anniversary of being smoke free...he had smoked heavily for 29 years. He had a carton of cigarettes he had just purchased before he decided to quit. He gave me the carton and each week that went by I would throw a pack in the woodstove...

Jodie, my wife, myself and two son's all quit on Oct 1st and are holding up good so far. We did the patches for a week or so, but nothing since. We all eat a little more junk food than before, but other than that!:D
Keep it up, take the money you where spending on smokes and spend it on something for yourself. Good luck, you're not alone.:D -

B_Boy…OMG, Congratulations!!!! That is fantastic and great that the whole family is in it together. Good for you guys!!!
Thanks, We now have a "smoke free" household.:)

Congrats Basenji Boy to you and your family on your accomplishment. I can't wait until I can say that I have been smoke-free for 3 months!
I just figured it out…I smoked 1/2 pack of cigarettes a day. At $ 8.00 a pack...I will be $ 1700.00 richer in a year. I can buy lots of goodies for myself!:D
Today was alot easier than I thought it would be. Who knows about tomorrow? Thankfully, I have alot of bags of the 100 calorie Nabisco chocolate chip cookies. I am taking it one day at a time. That's the best I can do!
Thanks to everyone!
Jodie:)

That's the way! Everyone needs a little motivation…..that's the logic that worked for me!
Good luck Jodie!

OK-so far, I have been very good. I am going on a week of being smoke-free.
Stress…I am stressed. My mom broke her hip in Oct. Long story short...she went thru rehab and was doing well. We convinced her to fly to Fla (instead of driving) as she and my stepfather are snowbirds. My stepfather was also recently diagnosed with alzheimers. Here's the stressful part...2 weeks in Fla and we find out she was hit by a car. She is OK, considering it could have been really bad. Fractured knee and a problem with a tendon above the knee. Probably will need surgery. My sister spent over 7 hours arranging her and my stepfather to fly to NY today and bring her to Manhattan for surgery. After all that time, her blood pressure went up and she cannot fly. My sister was frustrated...she took it out on me...I feel helpless and stressed!
Oh well, feel better now that I vented. I know everything will work out..I need to do my deep breathing and reach for a straw to chew.
Thanks for listening!

Jodie:)Hang in there Jodie, we just love venting here at Basenji Forums…...feel free!:D
What ever it takes. -
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! One week is a huge milestone.
Just keep telling yourself… one moment/one straw at a time... Each moment conquered is a victory in and of itself.
-
Fantastic that you've gone a week!!!! Vent as much and as often as you need to…anything to get you by the urge to smoke. Definitely sounds like it has been tough with all that is going on, but hey, if you make it through this w/out smoking, it should be clear sailing at least for a little while.
Congrats on your first week!!!!

Thank you, thank you all! Good news! My mom does not need surgery. She has a fractured knee but not a torn tendon like they thought. Thank you to the doctors in West Palm Beach, Fla. Hopefully, she will be coming back home to Staten Island tomorrow and will start rehab. As for me, another day I can pat myself on the back. Totally forgot about cigarettes because my mind was so preoccupied. Oh, also, today at work…I became one of those "reformed smokers" and gave the "lecture" to my co-workers as they were going outside on their break. Ha, ha:D
Thank you again for letting me vent! You guys are the greatest!
Jodie:)PS I went out tonight and bought Lillie her party hat. She will be 2 on 1/18.

Happy early birthday to Lillie and keep up the good work to you!

Jodie, You are doing great! You can do it girl, I did it. Believe me I loved smoking, then my 6yr. old only child came to me and asked me the dreaded question! He said, "Mommy, are you going to die"? My teacher told me that smoking can kill you, will you please stop smoking! Well, that was 18yrs. ago, and guess what he does not smoke either. I have never regretted quitting smoking, it is a nasty, expensive habit. I can't stand to be around smokers now, the smell is awful and the smoke bothers my breathing. I was diagnosed with asthma this year, I would be in a mess now if I smoked. So Hang In There, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! STAY THE COURSE!!!!!!!! We here are so PROUD of YOU!!!!!!!:D

happy birthday to lillie….what kind of party hat did you get her? i got felakuti a Sponge Bob hat, a candle in a string cheese stick, and a big nyla bone.
-
I got Lillie a pink party hat that states "Happy Birthday". It is put on like a headband. I will take pics on her birthday which is on 1/18.
Meanwhile, I made it to 8 days smoke free! Yay for me! Thank you for all your support! It has meant so much to me.
Jodie:) -
Congrats on the 8 days!!
-
Jodie,
Keep it up, think of all of the money that you are saving not buying cigs! Hmmmm … more money for dog toys! LOL!
Seriously, you can do this it sounds like you have your mind set to quitting.
Over time you start to feel healthier too.
Good luck!
-
Jodie, I am so very proud of you. I know how hard it is to quit, especially if you really liked it. You are well on your way now, don't give up! STAY THE COURSE!!!!!!!!!:D
-
good luck - i quit a few years ago, without intending to! i was just wearing the patch to stop my kids from nagging me all the time, and it worked! i almost back slid about 6 weeks into it, and took a puff. boy, what a mistake, i was coughing and choking badly, and it took me 15 minutes to stop. it certainly was the opposite of the "ahhh" feeling that a smoker gets when smoking. i'm sure you can do it, many people have. also, for the first couple of weeks, each time i didn't buy a carton of cigarettes, i bought myself a new CD. it was cheaper, and a nice reward.
