    I know they have found lower dosages work better for people, but not find much solid research on dosing for dogs for each disorder so I'd start low.     Hi, I have had a similar problem with my (11-13? Y/O) Basenji female, Zeenie. She isn't blind but I know her vision isn't good. I know her blood sugar was somewhat abnormal at her last blood test, but like your dog, it was right after a seizure and I understand that is to be expected. Her first seizure was this past August and she has been to the vet several times for testing, etc. since. There is no conclusive diagnosis but 1/2 the dose of a 32.4 mcg pill of Phenobarbital twice daily (given religiously at 12 hour intervals) seems to eliminate the seizures altogether (knock on wood.) I don't know what our next step is. I know I don't want any thing invasive, but I also can't afford an MRI: maybe an EEG or CT scan? If there is anyone else out there with advice, that would be welcome. Anyway, if you need support or just want to vent or brainstorm together, please let me know.     @Schouiffy: Hey Tanza, No she hasn't had much of anything done as of recent. My parents have had a really wild last 2 years so I think thats contributed to the lack of vet work. Happily, and thanks to Dan, we have an appointment set up for tomorrow morning with the vet. yay. And I'll restrain on the food front. I mean its not awful food, but there are a lot of grains… hmm. It's really kinda difficult to see them at this age, I think this last year as been a hard one for her too... Again.. at her age.. I go back to "if it ain't broke" don't try to fix it… I can tell you that is exactly what I would do... period.... and yes, there might be better.. but at her age... it is not going to make a difference.. again IMO

    @FortheLoveofStella: I have a rescue male, who was being used as a stud dog. He was neutered two weeks before I got him. He was aggressive towards other dogs when I first got him, but he has settled down a lot since then - although he still "has to" mark his territory. Did he come from a puppy mill situation? That would account for the marking… because typically Basenjis are one of the few breeds that males don't mark, in fact, it is usually the females that tend to mark. Also you should get them both DNA tested for Fanconi (for your own peace of mind)... www.basenjihealth.org

    @Ninabeana26: Yea no kidding! That's why I laughed when a couple months back I read that ad for the basenji puppies where it said "non-shedding, non-barking dog!!!" Yea frickin right! My work pants, sheets, sofa, air, etc beg to differ!!! The only part that is true is "no" doggy odor…
