    I know they have found lower dosages work better for people, but not find much solid research on dosing for dogs for each disorder so I'd start low.     Here's my neosporin trick. Quickly without a fuss put it where needed, then make a HUGE show out of putting a little neo somewhere else that is easy for him to lick - I like to use the top of a front foot. I say things like "OH my goodness, look at this foot!!!! We are going to have to put this stuff right here on this foot. Whatever you do DON'T lick you foot" etc. I drag this out (time wise) with as little neosporin as possible but go on about how much this foot needs the neo. So, when the dog is released, he'll go lick his foot and forget about the owie place. It's sort of a game. Basenji thinks he got one up on you and you think you got one up on him. (Yea, I'm easily amused.)

    @Schouiffy: Hey Tanza, No she hasn't had much of anything done as of recent. My parents have had a really wild last 2 years so I think thats contributed to the lack of vet work. Happily, and thanks to Dan, we have an appointment set up for tomorrow morning with the vet. yay. And I'll restrain on the food front. I mean its not awful food, but there are a lot of grains… hmm. It's really kinda difficult to see them at this age, I think this last year as been a hard one for her too... Again.. at her age.. I go back to "if it ain't broke" don't try to fix it… I can tell you that is exactly what I would do... period.... and yes, there might be better.. but at her age... it is not going to make a difference.. again IMO

    Dallas will do this when he pees in his crate. However, that is the only time I have ever noticed. I actually have never caught him doing it either, but my mom has. Not to mention, I have come home & my room will smell like he peed but the crate will be dry. I assume that's what he has done. I asked my vet & they said it isn't anything serious that should cause concern.

    @FortheLoveofStella: I have a rescue male, who was being used as a stud dog. He was neutered two weeks before I got him. He was aggressive towards other dogs when I first got him, but he has settled down a lot since then - although he still "has to" mark his territory. Did he come from a puppy mill situation? That would account for the marking… because typically Basenjis are one of the few breeds that males don't mark, in fact, it is usually the females that tend to mark. Also you should get them both DNA tested for Fanconi (for your own peace of mind)... www.basenjihealth.org
