Basenji's on Wine Labels- Need your help

Basenji Talk
  • @ChaseandZahrasmom:

When I called the woman I spoke with asked me if it was normal for a Basenji to hunt deer because Redmund their Basenji had gone after a doe and shortly after that he went after a buck!

I heard them talking about that at the party. The Basenji didn't kill the deer, but almost. They had to have the deer put down.

    Don't ever underestimate a Basenji.;)

My little Max (24 lbs) did the same to a full grown racoon years ago….and Max didn't have even a scratch on him....I started putting the dog door down at night after that.....

He may be a little Max, but everytime I see his picture he reminds me of my Big Max.:)

It is amazing what they can do and could you imagine what a pack of say five or six could do????

  • It is amazing, I almost didn't believe it when she said it because Zahra is so small that I can't imagine it.

  • Apparently the winery name is not listed on the bottle… how is that possible?
    I'm still working on that...

    Happy Hound
    Cabernet
    Sonoma, California

is all I have so far... ugh!!

  • I emailed Pearmund Winery also. They were quick to get back to me. I think I'm going to go out there this Sunday and meet Redmund and pick up a few bottles to give family and friends over the holidays. Based on their location, I think they are only about 45 minutes from me. Apparently the tours aren't scheduled and they are open for visits at pretty much any time.

I would take Tucker, but I'm afraid he'll start a fight. Wouldn't be too cool if the subsequent wine labels had a bloody mangled basenji on them. :D

Yeah, that probably wouldn't be an endearing label :D

  • That winery must be LOVIN this forum…I ordered my wines too! I'm going to give them to our dog trainers as Xmas presents from my Bs :D

I have discovered that many Basenjis don't mind hanging out with their own kind...when they have enough room to play & run around like maniacs  ha ha!! My Bs are very confrontational with other dogs but when we've taken them to meet other Bs they're actually pretty good. SHOCKING...I know!

As BBoy says they're just prejudiced & only stick to their own kind LOL!! HA HA!!

  • Darn if I haven't missed the FedEx delivery person the last two days! I want to see my wine!!!!!!!

  • When I ordered my wine the other day, I told them they might be hearing from quite a few basenji owners–both in person and having wine shipped. They were quite happy about that :)

I stopped in at a nice, large wine store today while I was Xmas shopping and asked if they knew of a Happy Hound Cabernet, and they did not.....so it is still a mystery.....

  • I got my wine from Pearmund's today, the labels on the bottles are sooo cute!

The label on the back says:

Our social Basenji, Redmund, is constantly searching for the best of what our vineyard has to offer; whether it's fresh fruit or frolicking fun! We've composed this wine to embody the joyful spirit that Redmund brings to our farm winery every day.

  • I can't wait to get mine!

@pawla said in HELP!! I NEED OWNER'S OPINION ABOUT A BASENJI THAT BITES!!: A biting basenji is never acceptable, but as many people have already pointed out, any aggression must be dealt with properly based on the circumstances. I used to have 3 basenjis who would go nuts on leash if they saw another dog or huntable critter. They would bite anything (including eachother) in the heat of their excited frustration. I had this with my two Basenji girls.....it's transferred aggression.....if you can't bite the one you want to bite, bite the one you're with! My last Basenji boy could be trouble if he saw a dog he didn't like. I was careful to keep him at arm's length if he really got revved up, or else my clothing could become a target. Agree, keep the cat and dog away from each other, although with the best of intentions, sh*t happens and critters manage to get where they should not be. One of the reasons I think "no" is the second most important word in a dog's vocabulary (after "come"). As such, IMO it should be reserved for important situations and always be enforced. It means "stop what you are doing right now!" And yes, there are instances where you might want to raise your voice. Again, done only when it is important, this can be effective. Do not poison your important control words. Use them only when you mean it and make sure you are obeyed. For less important occasions, use a different word. You do not want to teach your dog to ignore you when it's critical for him to pay attention.

Ladybasenji, where are you in Quebec? Montreal? We have a place in Gatineau (Aylmer sector) and one of my dogs might even be related to yours. You're experiences with your girl remind me so much of my first basenji, about 20 years ago–it gets easier, I swear! Let me know if you'd like help with Lady--they're nothing like labs and will never be "obedient" but there are tricks for training them : D

Totally agree with Pat. I have two intact female B's. They are NOT the best of friends and have to be watched constantly. They are never alone together. Yes, they've gotten into knock-down drag-out fights. I've been in the ring with slit throats, chewed up ears, scabs, etc. Not a good idea at all. I can control it simply because I watch them constantly and when they start to show signs of aggression, one goes into the crate. But it's not easy, it's stressful on everyone, and I really don't recommend it.

I wash my dogs teeth every day. On beginning was hard…they do not like this-however I can this make. Care about teeth is very important-I use paste-STOMAGEL and Petosan.
