Is my buddy a basenji?

Show Off Your Dog
  • yeah after looking at these pictures and what i was reading about them, he is probably most likely carolina dog (dixie dingo) which is cool thats still an original breed. theyre labeled pariah dogs just like the basenji's (or at least descendants)

  • Doesn't matter which breed he is… he is SOOO cute and you are already in love with this fella, no matter what!! :p

Since you are in Chattanooga you might want to check out Paws in the Park on October 13th. I am suppose to make the trip to Chattanooga to work a table for BRAT (Basenji Rescue and Transport). Maybe we'll see you there!

  • damn I didn't even know they were having that! Is it at coolidge park? if so, you'll for sure see me there. we could meet somewhere, would be fun.

  • There are now DNA tests available that can pinpoint what your dog might be genetically. Some companies can only do 30 or so breeds but most advertise well over 150.

Why should you care - well it is a way to know what sorts of things healthwise you should be on the lookout for as many breeds have unique health issues. I was at the vet last year and there was a puggle there with an eye issue - the owners shared what it was and it is common in beagles. They then went on to say that they had trouble with the other eye before and it was an issues specific (although not exclusive) to pugs. So much for hybrid vigor.

Darling picture though - good luck

You had me confused and then I realized you meant the write up on the other rescue (Okapi)… I like less white also. So I had to go look... wow, coloring reminds me of minpins. :) Cute dog though.

@ChaseandZahrasmom: [image: 47b7d831b3127cce855c33e60e9400000026108CYs2jZmzbg] This may be the first and last pictures of Zahra kayaking - she hated it AGAIN and kept trying to jump out of the kayak and swim to the shore. Looks like she will be spending time at the Doggie resort or with friends while we go out with Chase (our Puggle who loves the water) [image: 47b7d831b3127cce855c4a01cfe700000026108CYs2jZmzbg] What I love about this photo is that she has this look on her face that makes me think that she is begging DH to save her and take her home. Poor Zahra. :( This trip today confirmed it for me - B's are not water dogs. ChaseandZarhrasmom, we are taking Dash Canoeing in a couple weeks, where did you get the lifepreserver? Do they just have them at PetSmart?

Thank you very much for the info. I will have to try the time out. He was crate trained as far as being house broken, but now when I put brownie in the crate all he does is whine.. I do have 2 older dogs. one that plays with him and the other, well he just growls at brownie. The mother that was there when I got Brownie was a white shepard, maybe that is where the broad nose comes in.
