    yeah after looking at these pictures and what i was reading about them, he is probably most likely carolina dog (dixie dingo) which is cool thats still an original breed. theyre labeled pariah dogs just like the basenji's (or at least descendants)

    Doesn't matter which breed he is… he is SOOO cute and you are already in love with this fella, no matter what!! :p

    Since you are in Chattanooga you might want to check out Paws in the Park on October 13th. I am suppose to make the trip to Chattanooga to work a table for BRAT (Basenji Rescue and Transport). Maybe we'll see you there!

    There are now DNA tests available that can pinpoint what your dog might be genetically. Some companies can only do 30 or so breeds but most advertise well over 150.

    Why should you care - well it is a way to know what sorts of things healthwise you should be on the lookout for as many breeds have unique health issues. I was at the vet last year and there was a puggle there with an eye issue - the owners shared what it was and it is common in beagles. They then went on to say that they had trouble with the other eye before and it was an issues specific (although not exclusive) to pugs. So much for hybrid vigor.

    Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum!     I am so sorry about your brother. Yes, seems he was meant to be with your family. If you get a chance, record his vocalizations. We really love pictures and videos!

    @styvez: He does Bark, but tends to make a whole lot of other noises instead, i've read up on Basenji's but never seen or heard one so i dont know what kind of noises they make. Does he sound anything like this? http://s11.photobucket.com/user/eeeefarm/media/Basenji/MOV01074.mp4.html

    After striking out with my first 2 B's I figured I'd give my other love a try! She is wonderful so far, potty training is kicking our butt..as with any puppy. We have only had her a week yesterday so I'm sure this is gonna be fun! She is giving us (my gf and I, our 3 cats and Sid) a run for our money! Sid is very jealous though, which is what we wanted. We need him to desire attention instead of just laying around all day long. Wish us luckkkk with the ol' man.

    We got Killian from a breeder in Ohio–-Jim Edgerton. That's where he had gotten our previous male basenji. We took Logan and Jasmine to his place and looked at several 1 year olds and a puppies and Jasmine eliminated the others and we agreed with her pick.
