Some years back, during our Shiba Inu and Jindo period our Jindo developed a terrible rash and wht with her licking turned into huge hot spots, loss of hair and everything. Our vet narrowed it down to a grain alergy, suggested we go to an avocado based food, AvoDerm. Within 2 weeks she stopped itching and chewing, and 6 months later all her hair was grown out. As time went by she developed a beautiful luxurious coat, never had another problem with alergies or skin problems. We realize that B's dont have the long double coats like Shibas or Jindos, but our philosophy is if it ain't broke don't fix it, so we have just continued feeding AvoDerm to our B's as we accumulated our pack. The main problem with it is, if we feed them as reccomended they gain weight, so we really have to watch their diet.
Hello All!

My name is Christine and I am the proud new owner of Ginger. I rescued her as she was trying to cross Highway 99 in Seattle, Washington and have fallen love with her. I dropped her off at the shelter nearby my house to see if she already had a family. After visiting her everyday and no one claiming her I finally got to take her home. Her release date was actually my birthday. I could not have had a better birthday gift! I am looking forward to having discussions with all of you, as I am sure I will have multiple questions.

Welcome Ginger and Christine. This is one of the best places for information about care and training of Basenjis. How old is Ginger? How long have you had Ginger? (Happy Birthday! btw) Kudos to you for rescueing Ginger. I imagine she is red and white. Hope you post some pictures of your "birthday gift". How sweet she must be.

Ginger is approxiamately 5-6 years old and is a beautifull red and white lady! I have had Ginger for less than one week, but if you count all the days I visited her at the shelter, 3 weeks. I will post some pictures as soon as I can. Well, I am actaully off. I am going to take Ginger fo a walk in the beautiful woodland area of the Northwest. Take Care!

Christine, our basenji was also found in traffic (in October). Initially we didnt think we could manage her, but with the support of Basenji chat members and our local basenji rescue, we have decided that we couldnt imagine life without her. She is so full of personality and is michievious like a 2 year old. You have gotten a great gift and cant wait to hear your stories! Best Wishes!!!
