    This rash appeared on my B about a month ago. 1st vet trip they said to give Zyrtec & Benadryl. That seemed to help the agitation but didn't clear the rash up. 2nd vet trip they prescribed Prednisone & Cephalexin which really decreased the redness & he stopped licking at the rash. Now at the end of this round of treatment he is beginning to lick at it again. I have made an appointment for a skin test but thought I might get some insights from the B community.     Where is the rash? In the groin area in the creases of the back legs? If so I have had it with 2 of my basenjis. Last time topagen spray cleared it up In a few days. It always seem to happen in winter. My first basenji got it every year in January. I'm not sure if it's the heat on or the dryness. But that spray worked. Good luck!

    Yeast dermatitis is very common in dogs. Did they do a scrapping of the rash?

    Did she always have them or did they start after something/some time? Do antihistamines clear the problem?

    My Teddy had/has what I would call a rash as well. My vet said it is an allergy (he does occasionally lick his paws also) - at first he thought it was a food allergy but it would go away when the spring rains came. It appears to be related to molds and dust mites instead. I give him salmon oil (not the pills but the real oil), freeze his kibble, regularly clean his blankets etc., and give him oatmeal shampoo baths when it really acts up. I also use dermacton cream if his skin gets too dry. We seem to have it under control.

I think it would help prevent the ear edges and tips from becoming frostbitten. The shop seems to focus on Cats, but the owner appears to be willing to do special orders. Worth a try....

    Tillo also has a sort of allergie for grasses.. I wonder: is this more common in B's?

    @Maxie: Hi Tommy, My Basenji has that from time to time. Not inside, just on the ear flaps. Some people call it Winter Ears, but I'm not sure what the name of this problem is. Tried many things, but here's what worked for me. Thoroughly cleaned outside of her ears with ear cleaner from a pet store. Let dry, then used olive oil daily until it cleared up. Let me know if that works for you. Yup, it's just on the inside of the flaps. It's going away VERY slowly. I'll try the olive oil treatment…...thanks!
