  • After a two year span of not having a dog or dogs, I have done much research to find a certain type of breed that matches what I am looking for and the Basenji fits it perfectly! I will pick up our new little boy in latter January. I am glad I have found this site with such good questions and answers, I can just read all day long (until the puppy gets here!). I look forward to being a part of the Basenji community!

  • Hi and welcome to the forum. I didn't see this post until now. Things have been a little quiet lately. Feel free to ask questions and I am sure someone will show up to answer them!

  • Welcome. Yes, something is very wrong with the forum.. this didn't pop up for me until now either.

Where are you getting your pup from? Any pictures yet?

  • I had to place a email into the administrator for my post to show. I really like this site, I hope it works better.

To answer your question: I'm getting my puppy from Mata Hauri Basenji in about three weeks. I have been able to watch the puppies grow on facebook. They post videos every week for us to see.

  • Many of her dogs are related to my C-Me and Franie in the pedigree, I have been watching them grow also

  • Congrats on the new addition…such a fun and challenging time, I miss it- puppy season kills me :)

  • Also many facebook-pages dedicated to basenji's.
    Enjoy!

  • Thanks for the replies to my "Hello". I was wondering if I had walked into a ghost town…...seems there is a problem with the site at times.

@DebraDownSouth said in Hello! New Member: If your dog is getting too thin, give more in maybe 10 to 15 percent increases. Getting fat? Cut back 10 to 15 percent til you hit ideal, then add a little to maintain. " The eye of the master maketh the horse" applies to dogs just as well. With practice, you notice quickly if your animal is gaining or losing, and what his/her ideal weight looks like.....

Glad you found us! Contact Florida Basenji rescue, they do DNA Fanconi testing and have adults: http://www.campbasenji.org/ or write flbasenji@earthlink.net BRAT http://www.basenjirescue.org/ And also, please consider adults from breeders who need their own families.

Hi Jolanda I forgot I was registered for Basenji Forums until I got your email. I will reply to it privately, but I can tell the others on here that health testing has been done on the parents of my planned litter this year. Both have had hips done, been Fanconi tested and had eyes tested. The stud has also had thyroid done. I hope to get thyroid done on the bitch before breeding season. Christine Senjabi Basenjis

@Nicola: Hi Jenny! :D Oh what a shame. :( I was undecided on posting about SKC on the other site, I wish I had done now! Not to worry, we'll meet someday, I'm sure! And of course, I'd love to meet your gang too. I remember hearing someone saying "….Basenji cross" as I was walking by! Who'd have thought it was you! ;) Yes that was probably me lol. Roxy looked very sweet and I'm sure we will meet eventually:D
