Red Splotches on Tummy

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Jasper has irregular red splotches on his tummy where his hair is the thinnest. They don't seem crusty or infected. He's not licking or paying any attention to them. Advice?

  • does he lay in the grass? ant bites or sensitivity to the grass on the skin, ever sit on the grass yourself and get those funny red spots and or indentions? maybe the same thing or him laying on a rug that has been cleaned with something he may be allergic to? If they do not clear up in a day or two or get worse; definitely see a Vet!

Not soap ! - sponge the area with warm water or a proper dog-shampoo (used sparingly). If in doubt, consult the vet. If it is an allergy, perhaps you can think back to when they first occurred and identify something ?

I work for a carpet cleaning company and we use a product called FLUOROSIL for pet stains. I don't know if you can order this because we get it wholesale, but you can try: www.interlinksupply.com If you can't get this product or don't want to wait for it to be shipped try 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water. I'd probably try this first… might save you some money! Good luck.

My first Basenji would have nice bright white eyes. I would take her mnt biking with me and her eyes would be red and watery. My other 2 never experienced this. It's probably allergies. The older I get, the worse my allergies get. I have also developed new allergies. Things like Russian Olive never bothered me, now my eyes start flowing and my sinuses become highly irratated. If the concentration is high, I have trouble breathing. Talk your vet about OTC allergy medications and dosage. If your Basenji shows the same symptoms indoors and they do not improve, consider having your ducts cleaned and an electronic air cleaner installed.
